Race,
I'll answer your question concerning "Why all the complaints about wieght".
1997 Yamaha comes out with the SX 700 and advertises it's light weight and power to weight ratio being second to none at 487 lbs.
1998 All other brands decide to start following suit and they also start the light weight campaign, machines are lighten by all it sells alot of sleds, the lighter sleds have changed the snowmobile industry by making them better handling, floatability, etc.etc.
2003 Yamaha breaks the mold again, with the heavier RX-1, and that's about the only downfall for this sled because the weight is a trade off for many other positives !!
So yes it's heavy in comparing it to all of the lighter segment sleds, but compare it to the Solo-Touring segment sleds and there you shall see this machine SHINES in many areas !!!!!!!

I believe it is lighter than the other three manufacturers four strokes but you don't hear anyone complaining about their weights. Of course that could be because they don't make four strokes anyone wants to ride!

It's heavy , Im glad its not too light eather. Because the way we ride it if it was another brand it would be in the junk yard by now. I need a well built sled . I have frends with all other brands , Fix this fix that and so on ! I beat mine just as hard as the others and It does'nt care . Brothers f cat needed te be restored last sommer, Ski doo broke this broke that.

I figure its about the same weight as any other snowmobile in its class I have a 00 Suzuki Hayabusa it is heavier than the GSXR 1000 but its a performance touring bike (that happens to go into the 190 MPH range) It wont carve a corner like the 1000 but I bought mine and have already been to Montreal and Quebec for rides. The other companies 4 strokes just plain suck

I can speak from experience that the RX-1 is really, REALLY heavy.
Every sled gets stuck once in a while, the RX-1 is nearly impossible to get unstuck in almost every incident. (c'mon guys, you gotta agree). I can get it out the first part of the morning with great effort, but as the day goes on, I get to a point where I don't even try, my buddy always comes back to help. (we rode 30 miles a day for two days in three foot powder. That's rare up here where there is no trees).
The weight also contributes to it getting stuck easier. It doesn't float over, it just either plows through or gets stuck.
We don't need magazine articles and official weight measurements to know this sled is way heavier than most other sleds.
