welding wastegate

can you tack weld wastgates on new brackets.i bought a used turbo that someone cut the wastegate studs off and tack welded in a different position.i need to change the position and was gonna cut the tacks and change it.didn't want to melt anything on the inside.thanks

You can but if you get it too hot the diaphram will melt.
Or if a spark goes inside it will burn a hole in the diaphram.

I have an assortment of new ones if it does not work out.
 
I've done it a few times without any trouble. Weld it in short pulls, and you can quench it with a wet rag to manage the heat.
