so a bunch of us went riding saturday on Tug Hill. had a blast and put on 148 miles in 5 hours. i was riding my dads Apex GT cause my RX-1 is down till i re weld the front heat exchanger (damn studs..)

decided to go again last minute on sunday afternoon. just me and one other guy for this ride. had a blast this day too. until the ride home.. still riding the Apex, got about 30 miles from the trailer on the same loop as the day before, and i hit a ridge in the middle of trail. the thing stood about 2 foot tall, with a 90degree edge on it. i hit it going about 50 as i saw it last minute and couldnt stop in time.
needless to say, the sled bottomed HARD. and it rebounded just as hard, throwing the handle bars into my chest and bouncing me off the seat even when my feet were locked into the foot wells. within what seemed like a half second, i was upside down clinging too the bars and looking down at the back of the seat. I BAILED. the sled rolled and smashed the bars into my helmet breaking my shield out. from there my helmet filled with snow and its a blur. got too my feet as soon as i stopped and looked around as my buddy ran to my side. i look over and see the sled laying on its lid and flipped it over.

Dustin(guy riding with me) said he watched the sled roll at least 8 times before coming too a stop.

i feel lucky as ever to have been able to walk away from that with nothing more than bruising and some sore bones. THERE IS A REASON I BUY TOP OF THE LINE GEAR AND WEAR A BACKPACK WITH PADDING BUILT INTO IT AS I FEEL ITS THE REASON I WAS ABLE TO WALK AWAY FROM THIS ONE.

ill post pictures of the sled and crime scene soon. sled is totaled with a twisted tunnel, mangled exhaust, all the plastics broke or shattered in some way, seat no longer fits correctly, windshield and headlight plastic all broke or cracked, and blew the rear Ohlins shock..

sorry to hear it but at least your ok.
sleds can always be replaced

I always laugh at the looks I get from people when I take my coat off at a lunch stop. I always ride with a tekvest, peoples reaction is usually, wow what kind of riding do you do? I just laugh and think, I don't plan to use my helmet, but I still put that on.

Glad your ok.
Depending on the compensation they dole out, it may work out for the best.

Glad your OK. as posted above, no substitute for a Tekvest or some other reliable upper body orotection. Been save serious injury too many times to count. and , oh yeah, the looks and comments when you peel your jacket of LOL! A wife and 9 kids are more important than what other people think!

hartle youre lucky. I did the same thing this early winter. Sled made it out better than I did. I broke one vertebrae and chipped up four others from the sled rebounding hard and me turning into an accordion. Sled is all brand new again just waiting till July for the back to heal.

Another guy this weekend in the hill wasn't so lucky, med flight to Syracuse, broken bones, possible brain damage. Going to fast over bumps flipped his sled.

back of the sled looks much worse, cant seem to get that one onto my computer though. suspension and engine are all that is salvageable. tunnel exhaust and all plastics and seat destroyed..

the brackets for all the plastic are broke, and just hanging onto the sled.. top plastic is in 3 pieces. back half of the sled is twisted about 30degrees due too the tunnel..
