Well underway on getting my Vector ready for winter!!

The "driven clutch"" is the secondary clutch. There are three bolts on the back of the clutch. Yamaha offers 3 (?) difference thicknesses of washers to put underneath the bolts. These bolts and washers determine how high up on the secondary your belt is running. I've always shot for 1/16" above the secondary.

It's #'s 8 & 9 on the fiche copy here. Sorry....I only know how to upload it in a Word.doc
Ok, thanks for clearing this up. I know exactly the bolts you are talking about. I do not think I am going to replace these, as right now I have 7,000 miles on a belt that I am still using and it still looks new!! Sure it is little thinner than a new one, but I am amazed at how this belt has held up. Hoping to be able to put another 3-4,000 miles on this belt, but idk if it will hold up that long. Or might be to thin to use. I have to measure it to make sure it is still in spec. Cleaning the primary clutch today, already got the secondary clutch cleaned.

It's really not about changing the bolts. It's changing the washers that are underneath the bolt head. I think Yamaha offers .015" .030" and .045". You change those shims to keep the belt at the top of the secondary or a little above.

My belt which is right now a brand new one, needs to ride level on the secondary clutch. Other wise, the belt squeaks, and have trouble putting it in reverse. So for a few more thousand miles I am going to leave it how it is. Then start making the belt ride higher. Btw, would you happen to know how many turns to back the pilot screws off on my vector carb? I am hearing tighten them up, then back off 2 full turns? Is that the factory/stock setting? Thanks

Understand the belt squeak thing. If you're having trouble getting it into reverse your chain is a smidge too tight. Loosen the adjuster about 1/8" and try that. Might have to adjust it 1/8" again. IMO...it's not uncommon to have to burp the throttle a bit to allow it to slide into reverse.

Your pilot screws....I've done it myself.......1.5 turns I THINK. Stock settings are all over the place. Out of the factory Yamaha adjusts the pilot screws to get the best emissions number out of the engine. Were you pilot adjusters capped at one time? As I understand it they are all capped from the factory and one has to remove them to be able to adjust the screws. I had to do that on my 05.

What's more important (IMO) is synching the carbs. Grizztracks has a writeup somewhere on making your own tester. I built one and it's great! I'll look around to see if I can find a link for you. Again...IMO...this is a tool that any owner of a card'b Vector should have. Well, maybe if you let your dealer do all the work.

So 1.5 turns? I thought it was 2 full turns out? Or does it not matter if you do 1.5 or 2 full turns? Mine where not capped, but you can see they where messed with at one time or another, haha. My carbs are synched right now, as I made my own tool to use also, it did the job!! I do not let the dealer do work on it, as what is the fun of that? I try to do every thing my self, learning along the way.

I don't remember if it's 1.5 or 2. If memory serves, the 1/2 turn didn't make a difference anyway. If your screws were all over the place, it was likely like that from the factory. Are you the original owner? If not, previous owner or dealer might have removed the caps.....if they were even on there.

And before I forget.....I'd give my left nut to live where you do! I imagine it must be awesome up there! ;)!

I am not the original owner. I bought this sled with 9,400 miles on it, I did not let the miles affect me, as it is a 4 stroke!! And I got a good deal on it also, plus it was mint, lol
Ok, I have the screws set at 2 turns backed out, going to give that a try. Yeah the original owner probably had the carbs worked on/ cleaned at some point.

I saw where that guy posted that chart and it says to turns out on the pilot screws. I don't know where that information came from but that is not how they are set from the factory. Well at least my 2005 wasn't and anybody I've ever talked to about pilot screw adjustment has found them all over the place.

LOL!!! I live in Rockwood, ME, I thought NW Wisconsin had good snow? Maine is an awesome place to snowmobile, winter is getting well underway up here. You can put on a lot of miles up this way. I like to snowmobile on the side roads a lot/ unplowed, and hit the deep snow. But the trail riding is awesome also.

Ok, good to know about that. So I will give them ago how they are set right now!!! Hoping for the best with how it is right now.

We've lived up here 7 years and I've only had two years that I've had good snow. Last year the trails were open less than 30 days and the year before that the trails weren't open at all. When there is good snow the riding is great.

Wow!! Up here you have 4 months of snowmobiling!! Sorry for rubbing it in. That stinks about the lack of snow at times.:(
