Went to the dealer last night and got on the APEX.

why dont you go out and test ride an apex already.. sitting on one wont tell you squat..

If you ride with revs threw really nasty stuff.. than the apex might not be for you... although the apex is the best riding sled yamaha has ever had... it isnt a ditch banger like a rev is.. it is heavier.. but on the trail you hardly ever notice it..

the only down fall to the apex is the rear spring being to light for most riders(easily fixed with a $100 aftermarke spring). and the hand warmers (which will be fixed by yamaha)

We have no snow this year and no frozen lakes. I dont know how dealers are there but no dealer here is going to let you get on a sled and ride it. We dont even get any snow mobile shows within 3 hours of where I am that i know of. Even the ones that do I dont think they let you ride them just look. I wish we had some of these huge outdoor events that i hear about but we dont. If you want to buy a sled, quad or pwc here you better do your homework because unless you know someone with one you wont be riding it till you own it.

The people I know have all kinds of selds RX1, Sabercat, Polaris, Vmax, F-7, Mach Z and a few others. Only one of my freidns has a rev. The group is pretty diverse i just dont know anyone with an Apex yet which is why im doing my homework.

Even the guys i go with i wouldnt call them "ditch bangers" Drag racers more like it. They like to go on the lake and race people. The other half like trail riding in groomed trails 75% of the time.

Its just a really hard judge. I started off looking at teh cats, The F-7 is too agressive I dont like it. The Sabercat wouldnt be a bad choice but there are some stuff on it i didnt like. I like the rev chasis but i didnt like how the 800 was still a carb and you stand a good chance of blowing it up unfortunately. Other than that its a great sled.

So i decided on a rev or apex. Both sleds have advantages/disadvantages. I would say doo's best feature is the rev but thier motors just arent that realiable. Yamaha's best advantage is the relaibility of the 4 stroke but the disadvantage of the weight.

80% of my riding will be done in a groomed trail or ripping across a lake. So far I must say i havent heard 1 person saying not one bad work about the yamaha 4 stroke.

So i guess my question is do i spend $8000 and get a sled that will ride good but maybe blow up after 1500 miles or do i spend $8000 and get a sled that will still ride really nice and at least by all accounts be relaible but you never know.

I know im a newb here and newbie questions get annoying i am a veteran member on alot of other forums. As you can see a sled wouldnt exactly be my first toy but i found the best way to get info is to talk to the people that ride them. Especially in my situation liek i said where you cant always ride these things these forums are worth their weight in gold and i can't thank everyone enough for their input.

Take a look on Yamaha's website and find a demo ride and try one out. Those piggyback shocks are the ticket and having the electronic Ohlins has been a great convience.

I don't care fot the weight difference even in powder with the ATTAK.. so on the trail. no problemo... My biggest concern is stiil the #$%&* #$%&* #$%&* DARTING... tried all the tricks... not an easy fix on hard trails.... But everything else is very minor...

GREAT MACHINE...

My dealer lets anyone seriously interested - take a sled for a ride.. ONLY IF REALLY INTERESTED!! he also gives test rides on 4 wheelers etc..

I ride wth all CATS.. and 1 polaris... ZR900, ZR800, ZR600, 4-F7s... 2 F6s.. and a XC 600..

NO ONE LEAVE ME IN THE DUST ON THE TRAIL OR ON DRAG STRIP...

I did have to add 8 inch carbides and a 13mm swaybar to really handle like i wanted..

Usually about this time of year im contimplateing selling my sled for next years NEW big iron... BUT NOT THIS YEAR..

I ABSOLUTEY LOVE MY APEX GT... and i wouldnt trade it for any other sled on the market.. I beat the crap out of it like its a ditch banger..

yeah unfortunately even if they would allow a test ride we dont have any snow to ride it. thats why i want to get one now. Pretty good deals.

I saw some ppl say they ran the Pilot 5.7's on their apex's or the simmons. Tried finding a website for the simmons but i couldnt find it. I'll do more searching later if its an issue.

How can you register a sled at any license bureau when you pay no taxes buying out of state are you tellin them you paid 10 bucks for a 8 grand sled or are you buying a po box in a state with no sales tax,if you got to be doing that how can you afford to even ride a sled.

Not to sure what he meant by that. Whats Michigan SOS? If you buy something out of state you dont pay sales tax on it. I'm buying a sled in NH to save sales tax. If i register the sled in MA i need to pay sales tax but since there really isnt anywhere to ride in MA legally i wont be registering in MA. NH and Maine only.

So if i ride in Wyoming should i register my sled there, I was always under the impression that you register it in your home state.

I guess alot of it depends on where you live too cuz like i said I live in Ma about 40 min from NH. In NH, ME, and VT there are plenty of places to ride. Really nothing in MA so its not even worth registering. If i lived in somewhere like michigan i would register in my home state due to the fact there are places to ride. If there are places for you to ride in Wyoming definately register your sled unless your going to be riding on private property or if you know you are not going to get caught.

Either way its going to save me about $400 or so in sales tax which im happy about. Thats $400 in gear i can get.
