Rode apex er last weekend for first time. Awesome engine and handling. Really felt the small and medium size bumps. Sled only has 300 miles so things could be on the stiff side but skid didn't feel like it was stroking the way it should. I'm 230 with gear. Before first ride, I set preload on 6 without measuring sag. RA 5 clicks up from full soft. Late Saturday stutter bumps felt hard. Stopped trailside and reduced preload to 4. Felt like that made a minor difference. Sunday ride was filled with bumps. Not moguls though. I was getting pounded. I wasn't coming up off the seat so I think the RA was set properly for rebound. I reduced preload to 2 and felt like that made a minor difference but not alot of skid action. Weird thing was, I didn't bottom on preload 2 and I was expecting to. I'll be up at cabin again next weekend. Anyone have any tips or thoughts?

Set your sag for 45mm you are not riding within your valving range unless you set the sag. There is a good sticky on this page explaining how to do it. Once you know your sag is correct we can go from there.

You should have no problem stroking the mono at 230 lbs. Are you sure youre not just crashing right thru the travel and hitting the stoppers? Im 225 with the cam adjuster set at the 2nd clip on with the cam @#3 and I should go to a stiffer spring because it sometimes still strokes too much.
