Is it just me? If i have my 03 RX1 up on jack stand and when i accelerate and let off on it the track stops right now. Feels like the parking brake is set. Or at idle if you give it gas the track doesnt rotate real freely. My SRX and VMAX4 tracks seem to move freely at light acceleration and at idle it slowely turns. I adjusted the track with one inch deflection. After running for awhile you can smell something hot underneath. Up towards the front of the skid the seems real tight up against the slides. I do not see anything broken in the suspension. Normal?
 
You said you adjusted the track with a 1 inch deflection, did you use a 20 pound pull on the track when you did so.
 
They do that, its from too steep of an approach angle and too tight of a track. Try loosening the track off as far as you can - when its winter. Keep loosening it until it ratchets, then tighten it up until it stops ratcheting, then tighten it up a couple more turns.

And tighten in the limiter straps a bit. That'll help with the approach angle some.



BTW: without snow on the sliders, it will drag more than you would otherwise expect.
 
The smell you are encountering is the 3rd window closed on the track. Take a sprinkler/water gun and spray on the track when doing this. You will see what I mean. The track is getting warm, and heating up.
 
I was using 22lb pull with 1inch deflection. Is everybody measuring around the rubber bump stop area? About the engine braking are the four strokes any different when letting off compare to two strokes? I was wondering about tightening the limit straps. I got the sled at the end of year so i never rode it so i'm not sure of ski pressure on front end. The angle of the rails seems to be were the drag is coming from. Mighty have you installed those SLP wear pads? Do they install into track and ride against the slide? I just installed a new set of slides and they were wearing good in front more in center. RX1FV4 22 pounds of pull is good,a little further back(towards the rear) from the bump stop about another six inches and closer to the middle of the track as possible on the pull.As far as engine braking, big time difference from a 2-stroke,because the 4-stroke has intake and exhaust valves it produces alot of engine braking.At times when you get use to it you'll find yourself using the brakes a little less and the engine braking alot more.Try not to "chop" the throttle like you did on the 2-stroke rather ease the throttle down when approaching turns.
 
Yes like LB said they just do that,he is 100% correct about the angle of attak the higher you lift the back off the ground the more pressure you put at the front of the drivers,so dont be surprised if it wears your sliders off around the screws that hold it on.. Now i am speaking from exsperiance from my 03 rx1 when i ran it at high speed on a dry jack stand i wore out the stock set of sliders at the bend right where the screws attach to the rails,all in less than 100 miles of grass draging and jack stand running dry,now its not so bad if you run a hose of water on it while you rip it up,but i still would not recommend it for exstended periond of time!
 
Ummm, here's another thing to consider that I neglected to find wrong with my sled until a week ago. Make sure your track it not hitting your tunnel protectors. I pulled my track out last week to find about a 1/8 of melted rubber stuck to my tunnel protectors. However this happened because I replaced the stock track with a bigger Ripsaw track. All I did was trim the knobby's that were in line with the tunnel protectors about a 1/4 lower than the rest of the other knobby's..............................Cubby
