What oil to run in the Apex

I run amsoil in the following:
04 Lincoln LS
02 Saturn SC-2
00 Fleetwood Motorhome Ford V-10
97 Ford F-150
68 Vette
04 Yamaha FZ-1 (same engine as in our sleds)
04 WR450
01 Yamaha Wolverine quad
Onan Generator in the motorhome
Emergency Generator for the House
05 Simplicity Garden Tractor w/23 HP Kohler
Honda rear tine tiller
Go Cart with a Honda engine
I will run it in my RTX once I get about 500 miles on her.

Dang, looking at that list now I see why I'm an amsoil prefered customer :drink:

why waste your money on synthetic?

Because you can go more miles on a oil change and you have more protection because the syn oil doesnt break down as rapidly!

I am using 5W20 Mobile 1 in my apex gt..
Iknow all the benifits of running synthetic lubes.but how many miles are you going to do this season? and are you going to leave that oil unchanged if you only do 1-2000 miles this season? and as far as oil breaking down thats usually from hi temps.if your in the middle of nowhere your probably not going to find your brand of oil if you need any.

I would totally agree that syn is better after break-in for engine longevity, especially at the rpm these things run. The one thing that has me curious is that I have heard from several different people that syn does not offer as good of corrosion protection as semi-syn. Some of this info is from dealers who claim that fogging two strokes is more important than ever since most people are running full syn injection oil. Anybody have thoughts on this?

I plan on keeping my new 07 Attak for a LONG time, and I'm more worried about corrosion during storage than I am about wearing it out during riding.

Why wouldn't Yamaha recommend full syn?

The corrosion resistance issue I believe was true of early synthetics ie 70's, but not true any longer. Their are some oil industry people on the site maybe they can confirm. I am 99 % sure this was discussed and it is no longer a problem.
Yamadoo

Corosion protection is now on par with petroleum based oils. The only reason semi sythetics are around is cost. Some synthetic is better than none, 100% is better than some.

That is what we are saying with this oil there wont be a break down because of the oil.

Do you think because we are running an oil other than what Yamaha wants us to run if we ever have a warranty issue with these engines would they try to get out of covering it? Anyone know for sure?

Anything's possible...direct quote (shortened) out of the YES contract which I just got in the mail a couple days ago:

EXCLUSION #3: If a particular breakdown is caused by...maintenance other than is shown in the...owners manual...breakdown will not be covered."

I don't know if changing oil brands causing a problem, but if you show 'em copies of receipts that document you're running a 0W40 or 5W30 in an engine that they clearly specify 0W30 for? I dunno. What does the manual actually recommend foO oil...do they say Yamalube 0W30 "or equivalant"? Dot hey give alternate weights that are acceptable? or does it just say Yamalube 0W30? Mine's not handy at the moment.

I'm not sure if burdon of proof on such a failure would be on them or on you, but I figure why screw with it and risk it? Anything's possible IMO...Unfortunately my crystal ball is in the shop at the moment and they're denying my warranty to fix it because I didn't break it in properly...

Yamaha can not void the warranty for you using a different brand of oil. You will not, I repeat; you will not have an engine failure because of the type of oil you use. Unless you do something stupid like fill your crankcase with something like 2-stroke oil. Then you wouldn't deserve to have it fixed under warranty anyway :o|
Any effects on the engine caused by different types (petro vs. synthetic) of oil will not be seen for long term. The only short term effect you may notice would be something like easier starting with synthetic in extreme temperatures.

I'm running the Amsoil 4-stroke synthetic.
Me too, great stuff ;)!
That actually could of been a contriuting factor to why your sled was so fast. Lighter weight and less friction...
