We have not tested an exhaust on the dyno with the other combinations, we have only feild tested the setups with an Excell exhaust. I would rather quote HP slightly lower than tested and have a customer more happy with performance than claim a high number and have a customer disappointed!

10,500 to 10,800 as a general rule of thumb. That RPM seems to work pretty good whether stock or aftermarket clutching is used. We shoot for an initial launch of 10,400 and run up to 10,700-10,800 after a 1/4 mile.

Test 1:
10100 ~ 146.1
10200 ~ 147.4
10300 ~ 148.7
10400 ~ 149.7
10500 ~ 150.7
10600 ~ 149.6
10700 ~ 148.9
10800 ~ 147.5

Test 2:
10100 ~ 145.5
10200 ~ 145.6
10300 ~ 145.2
10400 ~ 147.2
10500 ~ 147.4
10600 ~ 147.2
10700 ~ 148.1
10800 ~ 147.6
10900 ~ 145.4

good info ulmer...what about with an exhaust like an excell?

Excell seems to keep the power right in the same region as stock (10,500-10,800). It will just have more midrange and build power sooner than stock.

Redsled, If you advance the timing you can pick up some HP in the upper rpms. Unlike the RX-1 the timing is retarded in the upper rpms on an Apex. I use a 4 degree Hauck key that I have been told only advances it about 3 degrees. I am going to file it down a little more this year to make it an actual 4-5 degrees. It is only about $20 for the key. If you do not want to spend the money on a PC it is a good alternative.

The key is just there to make sure you are in the correct position. It is a tapered shaft that locks as soon as you tighten it. Your clutch does not have a key does it?

Why not leave the key out then, and set timing anywhere you want.
