Hi guys i have a 2005 factory cat 440 snopro with a 600 firecat motor in it(I installed)that is done to the nines around 140hp.
But lets get to it I have a guy that wants me to sell it to him for a very good lump of cash and i am debating selling it and getting a used yamaha sled to turbo and was wondering what would be the best to get keeping in mind i dont want to spend to much for the sled because i have to get a turbo system.I have a few good deals found on a few different sleds but i dont know alot about yamaha four stroke sled and there suspension and what not plus the things to look for when buying one.First off here are some of the sleds i have found for good prices a 2004 red RX-1 in wicket shape same as new,2004 RX-1 warrior little more miles around 6000 i think, and 2005 Vector er with low miles 1.25 ripsaw and is also in wicket shape well all sleds where like new shape but these are just a few and i seen many more but my question is which of these sleds would be the best to turbo and use similar to my 440 say taking drops and ***** banging and what not i know that there not ditch bangers but which would do it best and i will be doing some upgrades with suspension and other thing aswell like fox floats, boss seat riser and what ever i find that will have to be done to make it what i want for my riding style.so guy your input would be great fire away. If i go through with this and im thinking i will i will be spending alot more time here and not just as a lurker
Thanks Roger

It's my understanding that the Triple in the Vector loves Turbo Charging
Plus you will like that chassis better than the RX-1 and Warrior coming from the sled you are.

For a turbo ditch banger I'd look for an Apex RTX with the CK chassis or the Nytro, (I don't think it had the CK until '07). Also I'd think about a supercharger instead of turbo. You can get plenty of boost w/ no lag. I think the turbos are more suited for lake racing and mountains. Either way you go I don't think you'll be dissapointed with any of these 4-strokes.

Sounds like you've got a nice sled for your style already. If it were me, I'd turbo/SC a Phazer FX, because of the lighter weight, and front-end refinements (see race sled) and the way it handles like a YZ - so they say.

The reality is the only suspension that should be able to handle your riding style is the ProActive CK combined with Fox Float shocks. For this you need either a 2006/2007 Nytro, a 2007 RTX, or possibly a 2007 Phazer FX.
Anything else and there's a good chance you will be breaking and/or changing suspensions. Also the front suspension geometry was improved starting with the 05 Vector, 06 Nytro and 06 Apex (03/04/05 RX-1 has the old geometry). The Nytro and Apex have the more aggressive, rider forward seating position also.
The Nytro is a nice sled and is built solidly. It has the most durable motor Yamaha makes, the 120hp tripple cylinder 4-stroke. It's just under 1000cc with 4 valves per cylinder. The 2007 RTX does have a stronger front pivot arm, but it can be bolted in on the Nytro if you need the extra strength.
As far as turboing, check the turbo section of this site.
Another option would be to go with an 03 or 04 RX-1, and completely replace the entire suspension and then do what you want for power. The 03/04 RX-1 was a fair bit heavier though and there are lots of 05/06/07 parts and aftermarket parts that could be bolted on that are lighter (but will cost $$$).
I'd recommend you take a good look at the Nytro.
That 2005 Vector that you were looking at also has the basic ProActive rear skid, but it doesn't have the same shocks and springs as the ProActive CK, nor does it have the Fox Float front setup.

I think you need to try a ride on a Phazer FX. If you like the feel then figure out if a turbo on it will have enough power. If you don't care for the ride style then I would agree with the Nytro. My local dealer has a turbo vector for sale but it's likely a long way from you.

I would think it's possible to get used RX-1's @ some very discounted pricing, especially in the northeast where the snow has been minimal or two years in a row. It seems the turbo & supercharger systems are more more developed for RX-1's than those for Apex's. Even though lots of guys are making excellent headway manipulating the Apex fuel injection systems, it still seems carbs would be easier to dial in.
i currently own an 04 sno pro with an f-7 and an 05 rx1. you will be greatly disappointed if you go from the sno pro to an rx1 they handle nothing alike. I have the suspension set as stiff as it goes and it still bottoms out all the time, and i am not hitting anything as hard or as big as i would with the sno pro. the reason i have both is one is to beat on and the other is for the trail rides i go on. If you can afford to wait i would to see what the phazer comes with for engine options next year?

Looks like it is here already...If that sled that won at the races is any indication, that might be the new sled to meet the beat on crowd...
In any event, Kachess has done some great things with his RX-1tons, so there are options, albeit requiring differing amounts of investment in work and parts...
Anyways, good luck with your research, this site contains lots of information for you if you decide to go either way.
