I am looking for a Tek-Vest year and am looking for the best one out there in terms of comfort and protection. Money is not that important to me as long as the price is not ridiculus(350$ or less). Saw a new one in snow goer magazine from "RXR North America" that uses all air bladders, they say it works really good, is light, and offers great protection. I am leaning towards this one unless I some one is able to give me good reasons to get a different one. Thanks for any input.

I've tried only two brands ... Tek-Vest and BeeWear. I personally like the BeeWear better. The fit is much better, and seems to be made better. They are also more comfortable, and seem like they provide more protection.
The TekVest just seemed to not fit very well, and seemed a bit "flimsy" IMO.
The BeeWear goes for about $250-$300 and you can get it from Starting Line Products.
But at any rate .... any protection is better than no protection.

Did you guys know that all racing sanctions only allow tek vest to be worn for 2 years from manufacture date. They have substaintial info that they degenerate after that and are unsafe. Maxdlx

First I have heard of this, but good to know!
Helmets don't last forever either, most rated for 5-7years max if no impacts or dropped.

I was going to use my helmet again next year even though it was in a high impact situation. I talked to hjc, and told them you cold hear the shell creak when the helmet is now flexed. They told me to ride with out it, because it would be just as safe. So i now get a new helmet. LOL Maxdlx

Tek-vest I have a supersport
fits great, removable cold weather collar.
They do run on the big side for sizing
I wear a small and I'm 180lbs.. might just be my frame
but a large wouldn't size down to me, it was too loose.
Best bet find someones to try on.

I'd hope that for 1/2 the price, they'd offer to replace the guts of it. I can see that in SnoX, you're likely using it more than once. I'd like to know about the degradation factor if you don't get in accidents twice a weekend for 4 months a year? I admit I didn't blow all that cash for a 2 year lifespan.

I don't buy it. Plastic and foam or whatever is in them doesn't degrade after a couple of years hanging in a closet 90% of the time. Race sanctioning bodies have deals set up with manufacturers. They get kickbacks from the manufacturers and in turn they make rules saying you have to upgrade your gear every few years. Who pays the tab for that?

I have seen it in kart racing as well. Some of it is valid due to technology advancement in the equipment, but a lot of it is pocket greasing......

If you can, wait until Hay Days and pick one up at their booth. Great prices on all three models. I picked up the breathable shell one for about $100 I think. I do remember it was $40 cheaper than most on-line places.

Not to get off topic, but I had to mention when Maxdlx cracked his helmet it looked like he just go his butt kicked by 20 guys.
Viperdave would vouch for that.

YA, I watched the whole thing. Good thing he's a hardheaded Iowa boy. Can't believe that helmet didn't bust in a million pieces.

Richie Rich in the vendor section, he knows protective vests like the back of his unruptured aorta. Sizes, which models, how to wear them.....

I wear the Tekvest Trail Pro model with optional shoulder pads. Once you wear it a couple of times, you'll feel unsafe riding without it. I think of it as a snowmobile seat/safety belt.
