What the heck is going on here with these spark plugs?!!

working on fords for 20 years ive seen the same in the plug holes on most cars even ones a few years old. rust, dust, corrosion etc. (the climate we all live in is way hot then way cold ,damp many months, its normal) as long as you got the plus out ,cleaned the holes and used a little dye electric grease on install its fine.

I would keep a eye on it. Possibly got packed with snow at some point by previous owner. Possibly been like this since you took ownership of sled.
Did you check or replace plugs after you purchased it?
Yep I hear you there, will be keeping an eye on it. I did not check/ or replace the plugs since I have owned it. I just decided it was time to replace them the other day, as I want to know they are brand new/ good. I bought this sled last February rode it for the rest of the season (put on about 1,600 miles). Just replacing them now. I have only put on about 30 miles this year. Thanks for the help on this guys.

I always use grease around the top part of the coil (the rubber plug, that keeps the water out) as putting them in with no grease is a pain to take them out down the road. Amazing what a little grease does to make removal that much easier the next time. As you can see I had all I could do to get the last one out (the one pictured above). The rubber plug on the one above was so stuck in the motor, I ripped it trying to get it out. On my vector I used grease when I changed the plugs on that, and it was a breeze being able to pull the coils out after that!! Thanks for the help!!

yea im in the same boat but w two sleds. bought the skidoo 4 stroke in late feb . and the apex in august this year. had to go through both sleds entirely . real joy. lol next year i will spending way less cash to get them up to par. good luck and buy some moth ball packs and scatter them all over. youll see alot of threads w critter issues

I got the critter issues under control, lol. Used peppermint oil inside both my sleds this summer, never had anything get into them all summer long. First time I used peppermint oil, now I am going to keep using it, lol. I have been having mice issues every year, in years past, but this year with peppermint oil, was mint!! I dripped it on all the foam on the side panels/ by the clutches, nose cone, places like that. And it worked!!

now you can say your sled is mint literally. lol,, never heard of using peppermint oil but i will try next. prob smells much better than moth balls

Yep true. My sled is running great btw, put dielectric grease on the coils/ down in by the spark plug to keep it from rusting farther. Put on 110 miles today, ran flawless!!

Make sure you put the peppermint oil on both side panels, nose cone, and any where there is foam. The smell stays all summer long, worth it tho to not have mice issues. Plus it does not smell bad either.

I will have to try that this year, when changing the oil filter on my 09 it was packed full of pink insulation under my engine. What a PITA that was to clean out, luckily no gnawed wiring anywhere after looking very closely.

Same here I got sick of that crap to. Luckily they have never chewed any wires yet. At least the peppermint oil seems to do the job.

Dielectric grease is your friend. Been using that since my first rx. Never had an issue like that.

Yep. I have never had an issue like this before also, that is what you get for buying a used sled....
