What was the trick to re-programing the Hand warmers?

I wanted to re-program my hand warmers this summer to return to the last position used. I'd prefer this instead of burning the manure out of my hands everytime I forget to turn them down before I take off. It seems like Lazy Bastard had posted the fix. I'd really like to see how to do it again. Could someone please list the parts required and the technique needed to re-program the hand warmers? Powder Blue

PB no J,

It was I who posted the info (with LB's help). The set up turns them to a setting you can chose, but does not go to the "last setting".

I wish we had all the old posts cause it was quite a long post. I'm not sure where all of me notes are at the moment, but I will look for them. I had listed all the wires etc that you tie into.

Here is the link to the part you need:

I'll look for the notes. If I can't find them I will tear it apart next week and recreate it.

Thanks Spray, I did print the info last time but it was in the wide screen format on the computer and I missed a bunch at the end of each line when it went to my printer.

It seems like about 1/3 of the way on the hand and thumb warmers were about right for most occasions. Where did you guys set yours to default to?

Thanks again. Powder Blue

I have mine default to off. I spend to much time stopping to help owners of black sleds get unstuck. :D

On the occasions I need a little heat I just bump them back a little.

I can't find my notes so I will look at it next week. Not a big deal, but I'm going tp be gone for a few days.

Spray, if you need to fill in the holes you may have in your notes I MAY have the parts you are missing.
Are you taking the back roads to Stanley? How far would that trip be anyway? I would assume hauling gas (at least as a precaution and so a guy could PLAY on the way) would be a must?
Have a good one. PB without "J" today.

Here are the instructions!!!

I saved the info and have pasted it below.

First, I need to give credit where credit is due. LB was a lot of the brains behind this fix.

You need an Omron H3YN-2-DC12 timer (or one that functions the same). You can buy it here:
http://www.e-sonic.com/electrosonic/pro ... ++++++++++

This is a Canadian company and with shipping it worked out to $65 US. I'm hoping someone on here can find it cheaper.

I HIGHLY recomend buying part #275-0221 from Radio Shack for $1.69. This is a socket to plug the timer into. This allows you to do all of your wiring to the socket and not risk breaking the timer.

The timer has dip switches on it and the need to be set as follows: The time range should be 1 min. and the operating mode should be "interval".

The dial on the front should be set to the .2 setting. You can fine tune this to your liking.

What this timer does is basically hold down your hand and thumb warmer buttons for the amount of time you set the dial for. When set at .2 it holds down the buttons for .2 minutes (12 seconds) as soon as you start your sled. I have not tried a lower setting but in theory you could have it hold down the button long enough to only turn the warmers down partially, say half way, if you wanted.

Now here is how to hook it all up.............

You will notice that the socket and timer have number pins. You will be connecting wires to these by either soldering or using wire terminals. I tood the lazy/easy route and used the wire terminals.

Remove the handle bar cover and foam pad. Each warmer has three wires going to it.

On the thumbside find the pale green wire with Blue stripe. SPLICE in to that wire and connect it to pin #8. Notice I said SPLICE. Do NOT cut the wire. Simply use splicing terminals. If you do disconnect or cut that wire you will lose your ability to adjust the warmer manually. Next splice into the black wire and connect it to #12

Now move to the handwarmer side. find the Yellow wire with blue stripe. Splice in to it and connect it to #5. Splice in to the black wire and connect to #9.

Next find the Blue wire with the white stripe that connects to you headlight dimmer switch. Splice into it and connect it to #14. This is your power source. This keeps all the wiring contained in the handle bar area.

Next run a ground wire from one of the handle bar mounting bolts to #13.

#1 and #4 are not used. They perform a diferrent function.

I used foam pipe insulation to help guard the timer then I zip tied it to the handlebars. I did it low enought that everything is covered back up by the foam and handlebar cover. You can not see anything on my sled and would have no idea it is there.

This works real slick. When you start the sled the display goes through it's normal diagnostics check then shows the hand warmer turned down. You do not see the thumb warmer being turned down, but it is. after a few seconds the gas gauge comes back on and all is normal. You still retain full manual control over the warmers

Thanks for the great note. I have seen this work and it does work nice. As for the black sleds getting stuck I beg to differ. I don't remember getting stuck that whole day. If I recall correctly, it was that green thing that kept getting stuck. And I have to agree with RX-1 MB that not only do the black sleds in Norway have more HP, but the ones here in the US do also. Just food for thought.

J,

Remember the Doctor said you have to take your medication EVERY day or your delusional state will return. Obviously you missed a day!

PB,

Snowracer has saved the day. He kept a copy of my post.

As for Stanley it takes the better part of a day. Packing gas is a must unless we behave and stick to the trail. Like that is ever going to happen!! We should get J and Jrossite (I refuse to use his new name) to go with us.

Now your talking Spray! If those guys haul the extra gas for us it would be even better ;) The drawback of the Blue sleds having more horsepower is we MAY take a slightly more fuel. Oh well!
It would be nice to have 4 of us on RX-1's make the trip. I have a couple more buddies that might like to come too unless we make it an RX-1 exclusive thing. Maybe even Treewhacker could make it over? It would be nice to have a cache of fuel prepositioned in a opportune spot. Have it maked with a GPS coordinate like a Geo cache and we could all top up? How much do you want for gas money? Powder Blue

Man the dilemmas. I'm Thinking J and J might protest at the thought of packing our gas. They already feel inferior enough having picked the wrong colors.

Usually when I need extra gas I make my wife go so she can pack it!! :D You're married too right? LOL

You are welcome to invite less inteligent people (riders of other brands) Heck maybe we can get them to pack our gas.

This is starting to sound like a good plan. I'd like to add Pinball Wizard to the invite list. Gramps (aka Convert) is planning a trip out here. Maybe we can coordinate it with him too. I know he'd love it.

You can count me in on the trip. I think since the blue sleds are supposidly superior, they should pack the extra gas. Let the more advanced superior black sleds lead the way. And no green sleds.

Fastest Sleds

I can see you guys are terrified that a SILVER sled might come too and imbarrass you all. Ray I am wondering if modifying your hand warmers made that blue slug any faster?????
