I'm changing my lower gear to a 40 tooth and want to go with synthetic oil in the chain case. Can anyone tell me what weight I should go with??

75w90. make sure you use gear lube, not amsoil chaincase lube. it is like water!

Used Amsoil for 25 years and not one chain case problem,or leak if sealed properly.Runs way cooler.
Zipclean, are you currently using Amsoil chaincase oil in your yamaha? And how long have you been using it? I just changed my track and installed Amsoil in the chaincase. I thought it looked thin comparied to what came out.

yamaha recommends 75w90 gear lube. would you put strait 10w oil in the engine?

4,089 miles on my Apex ER with Amsoil, 7,000 miles on my RX-1. I've had 0 chaincase problems.
Guys any oil would work in a chaincase! Full synthetic is the way to go if you want better lubrication and a cooler running chaincase. Synthetic all the way.
I did a viscosity test with the Amsoil Chaincase Lube and Mobile One synthetic 75-90 gear lube and they are too close to worry about.

What does Hypoid mean anyways?
My 2002 Honda 350 fourtrax 4x4 requires this oil in the rear final gear and front diff. Iv been using a sythetic oil in it and it works like a champ, never had a problem, but I think its non-hypoid.
