I'm sorry if this has been beat to death, but I've been doing some reading on here and I haven't found a definite answer. I'm thinking of trading my 02 Viper for a 4 stroke and it has to be a Yamaha of course. I really like the looks of the Apex and the Nytro. I know they are completely different machines and there's things I like about them both. The trails where I live in Vt are tight and twisty so the lighter Nytro is appealing and top speed doesn't really matter that much to me. The Apex looks like it might be more comfortable. The other thing is I can't talk my wife into getting her own machine so she rides with me a fair amount, but not enough where I want a two up machine. I have a seat jack so all I need is a new bracket to mount it to whichever sled I choose. I'm leaning towards the Apex, but I was hoping for some advice from people that have actually owned and ridden this machines. Thank you for any input.

First off, how many miles do you normally average in a day? Do you like to stand up when riding solo? Are you a cruise-the-trails-and-enjoy-the-scenery type rider or an aggressive/quick rider?

I came off an '02 Viper myself. Apex all the way. I had a seat jack on my Viper, and when I went to the Apex, it was that much better. I rode a buddies '09 Nytro, and I was not a fan at all of the seating position. I am an aggressive trail rider and I love my Apex XTX. I did customize it for myself, with a taller handlebar riser, as I'm 6'1". I would recommend driving a Nytro, before pulling the trigger.

Well I guess normally I just cruise the trails and enjoy the scenery type of riding. Sometimes I get aggressive if I'm in the mood, but I don't ride hard like I used to. I don't usually put on huge miles in a day. A typical day of riding would be 50 to 100 miles, not that 200 is out of the question. I've checked out the Nytro and Apex forums and they both love their machines, but I thought by looking at them the Apex might fit me better. I was actually even thinking that a 136" would be perfect as it would handle 2 up riding even better. Thanx for the replies guys.

In tight twisty trails I get very tierd of riding my nytro the steering is very heavy. For you, apex would definitely be a better choice.

I would recommend the apex xtx model over the nytro, I have both models and the new style apex is so much easier to drive with the new geometry and combined with the power steering it is a blast to ride, very easy to steer and very good suspension for carrying more weight; the nytro struggles with any amount of weight on it and some of my buddy's have actually modified rear springs from ventures to get a heavy spring for added rider weight, its also not an easy sled to to steer through corners and you will hate that if your used to driving a viper which corners like its on rails, the nytro and apex are very reliable, the apex has a good 30 mile farther fuel range over the nytro which is an issue on high mile trips with the nytro. The apex xtx is an expensive sled to purchase but holds its value quite well, now just my experience with my apex xtx in windy tight corners is it corners quite flat and is so responsive and sounds so awesome it's like so addictive you just want rip up the corners all day long.
I know which one I would buy and it's not the nytro, you will of course have to decide for yourself so happy shopping

If you are considering a newer but not brand new, I can give you an opinion on an 07 Attak compared to an 09 Nytro XTX. The Nytro is better in the deeper snow especially with the backcountry track, but the steering is heavy in the twisties. The Attak is so comfortable to ride, steers relatively easy, but probably most outstanding is once you feel the power, there is no going back. There is a difference!

If you ride semi-aggressive @ 100+/- miles a day, look at a 2012+ Vector LTX. It's basically a pre 2011 Apex with a Nytro engine that is slightly de-tuned. It has power steering, a comfortable seat and a 136" mono rear suspension that rides really nice out of the box.
I've spent some time on a buddy's 2013 Vector LTX and it really is a great sled; best bang for the buck IMO. You can't go wrong with an Apex either, but a Vector just might fit your bill.
Like the others said, take a weekend and test ride the different sled's to see what you like and dislike about them.
Good luck and keep us posted on your decision.

Go to Pat's Yamaha in Greenland. He lets you try them all. Great trailside service as well

First thank you all so much for your input. I wish I knew someone that had one of these machines, but I think the Apex is probably the best fit for the trails I have and how I ride. I would be getting an older one like a 06 or 07. I've seen some for $3500 to $4000 for sale and that would be in my price range. I'm not sure if I can swing it this winter, I may have to wait till next winter since I just had to do a top end on my Viper. I had to change pistons/rings and a cylinder which ended up at about $500 in parts. I just came in from working on it and I'm over half done and hopefully I can finish it tomorrow night and maybe try it out this weekend since we finally got some snow. I also think a Vector would be a good ride to. It must be close to my Viper in performance. I just haven't seen as good of a deal on those for some reason, I can get a Apex for about the same money. Thanx for the advice and if the budget allows I'll be riding a 4 stroke !!

Apex or Nitro
Go with the Apex, no such thing as too much horse power.
