I have 4 07 apex attaks and they all have about 10000 miles on them. They are great sleds and if you look you will find something nice. These sleds are so well built that an 07 will probable give you 8 to 10 more years if you maintain it . Good lucksuperfan75 said:First thank you all so much for your input. I wish I knew someone that had one of these machines, but I think the Apex is probably the best fit for the trails I have and how I ride. I would be getting an older one like a 06 or 07. I've seen some for $3500 to $4000 for sale and that would be in my price range. I'm not sure if I can swing it this winter, I may have to wait till next winter since I just had to do a top end on my Viper. I had to change pistons/rings and a cylinder which ended up at about $500 in parts. I just came in from working on it and I'm over half done and hopefully I can finish it tomorrow night and maybe try it out this weekend since we finally got some snow. I also think a Vector would be a good ride to. It must be close to my Viper in performance. I just haven't seen as good of a deal on those for some reason, I can get a Apex for about the same money. Thanx for the advice and if the budget allows I'll be riding a 4 stroke !!

The ride from a Viper to a Vector will be vastly different. The Mono is hands down better than the Pro action. That being said the ride of a Vector to the Apex would be the same.
You will notice the power difference between the Viper and the Vector. The two sleds have the same hp rating but the Vector is like 80-100 pounds more than the Viper.
A stock Vector will have a slower top speed than a good running Viper. It has a smoother and longer power band than the Viper but will hit the wall at 95-100mph (dream-o-meter).
My Viper would hit around 110mph ( dream-o-meter) or more depending on conditions. Best was 117mph. It was -35c ,with wind, on a long lake run. Again that was the dream-o-meter speed.
Thats why I purchased an Attak when I sold my modded Viper. Gained all around power, top speed, mileage, handling and lost the stink of the 2smoke.

Well when I finish catching up on here I'm gonna try to finish putting my Viper together and hopefully take it out this weekend. I've only had one ride this year so far. I shouldn't have posted this because after reading all the responses I think I want an Apex even more than I did before. LOL. I hope I can work it into the budget this winter, but I'll be upgrading in the next year or two at the latest. My Viper does ride nice since I upgraded the rear skid to a Polaris IQ. I don't know how that compares to the mono skid, but its definitely better than the no action skid. At least until I can get an Apex I can still ride my Viper. Those Yamaha triples still sound good.

I was thinking today actually since I have the IQ rear suspension that I could pull it from my Viper and sell the Viper with the pro action. Then I could pick up a RX 1 and install the IQ in that. What does everyone think of a RX 1 with a better rear skid. I can get on of those even cheaper than an Apex. I don't need the best machine out there, I just want a nice 4 stroke. Or does everyone think its worth the extra money for the Apex. Thanx again.

i had an 06 apex rtx and loved it. put on 7000 miles in 4 years and never touched the motor. i did have to change boogie wheels and replace a h frame in the suspension. and they ware slides fast, 1000 to 1500 mi but all of the yamaha 4 strokes did. not that big of a deal i put dupont slides on and had 1800 before i traded it on a new viper last spring. from reading your posts i would strongly suggest spending the extra money and getting a newer apex or vector with power steering. it is unbelievable. i swapped once with one and didnt want to ride mine anymore. no fighting at all which would be a huge plus while riding 2

Keep in mind you need to add 1000$ - 1500$ to the cost of a used Apex to revalve shock and fix the exhaust if it needs it amongst other things. Unless you go informed and prepared and find one that has all these things done already. copper donuts, stainless y pipes, snowtrackers, DuPont slides, yamaheater and a revalved mono good to go. Really love mine but I did put 2000$ into it on top of 5000$ cost of purchase originally. Great sled though and yes addictive.

Okay thanx for the heads up on what to look for, I'll have to keep that in mind when I'm looking.
Attak/Apex all the way. I had a viper and liked it but wanted something newer. The Attak/Apex with a 136 track is a great trail sled.

All excellent items things to spend your money on to make an Apex/Attak alot more comfortable and fun to drive. If you drive at night I would add HID's.
Regardless of what sled you find you are more than likey to dump a good chunk of cash into it. Sleds are a high maintenance item and it costs to keep them in good working order.

What did you have to do to make your Attak handle better than your old Viper? I have a Viper and now an Apex, and I don't see how that would be possible.
