whats everyone think of the new viper?

I wouldn't call it bashing either, he posted the thread in the Apex forum, so biased opinions are to be expected. I tried the Vipers at a demo ride when they first came out...loved the looks, ride and seating position is great. I tried the Apex last, seemed sooo much smoother and easy to handle with the EPS, and the motor is unreal....so I ended up with an '11 Apex and love it...

I agree & don't have a probem with OEM agreement could be a good thing but Viper no Apex & I hope it doesn't become an Apex replacement to me that is an extreme reach to the Yamaha core market & NOT what they want. If no Apex clean sheet product line then tweak & improve current Apex line up until a whitesheet product is available but drop Apex & offer a turbo Viper as replacement would be turning you backs on Apex owners & make it sooo easy to leave Yamaha. Don't like Viper no Apex ...done deal gone to Doo for something better..... Poo no 4s... Viper & Cats same feel logic says try Doo if Apex gone. Dropping Apex would be so wrong in soooo many ways!!!

Seems to be a lot of issues with the new viper, was thinking of buying a new one, now not so sure. after reading the posts in the viper section, its seems like a dud. not sure about this joint venture with cat. starting problems, loose rivets, reverse gear problems. I just rolled 16,000 kms on my 07 apex, still runs greats, no real problems except bad donuts, which I changed several years back. the usual things replaced, sliders, bearings, changed the coolant this year. new spark plugs, couple of idler wheels over the years, it has been a great sled. fast, good on the trail, maybe not the best suspension out on the snow, but I have it set up just right, I think I will keep it and try to get over 25,000 kms on the sled. I also am used to the power of the apex, going to the viper could be a disappointment, unless I get a turbo, but I don't really want to spend $3000 extra to get the turbo.
I am also considering a new Viper but have the same concerns. I have 20,000 kms on my 08 Vector which has been a good sled. However I turned 31,000 kms on my 2011 Apex XTX today and it's a Great sled. It is going to be very difficult to give up the reliability and performance of this sled.

I've got a 2014 Viper XTX and my father has a 2011 Apex XTX. He agrees hands down that the Viper is more comfortable, handles better, is faster to 85-90 MPH, and is great off trail. He loves the power of the Apex and enjoys the top speed (which the Viper obviously lacks), but hates the weight when it's stuck. I haven't had any of the above mentioned issues with my Viper other than the new red "Cold Weather" solenoid that needed to be installed on his Apex too. Just our two cents

128 Apex best sled I have ever owned so far. I have 0 experience on the Viper but local guys have nothing but good things to say about bump control and handling of those things. They just lack top end but it is a 600 class sled and no one seems to mind it. I myself love the 11 Apex a few tweeks and a little cash into it will be awesome. I just blew my track at 10000kms so new track ew studs should fix my traction issue that I seem to be having. Can't wait to get it back on Tuesday.

I to rode the vipers all of them last year in Mus. last march had the prilavage of riding all the models. I got to put a total of 100 miles on the demo sleds wow do they handle the seating from sitting down to standing up is spot on it is IMHO a great handling sled but its not for me. The last 20 miles of the demo I end up on my apex and I realized what I like about it you guessed it the unmatched power that the viper dose not offer. That being said I realized that the old girl needed some updates I bought the tall windshield, risers, and WRP that I still have not installed I'm looking into heating options for it as of now that is going to happen this summer. I'm holding out for a viper with apex motor as of now not interested in buying a new sled and putting a turbocharger on it

we have on rider who bought a new viper xtx in 14 and a new viper with a shorter track 2015 they are fun off trail and for jumping the evol shocks are great but he had every problem avail for the 2014 so that turned me off but the 2015 seems to be problem free. what i cant get over is the lack of top end.

My bro has a 14 viper and agree it handles great but lacks power and reliability towed it home last two weekends. I'll keep my 11 xtx best sled I've ever owned
