2011 Apex ER
The 1200 has some add on's and the transfer in the rear skid is very good. With all the simple suggestions people have listed I would think the Apex should destroy it! I would say the Apex should be ahead by 3-4 sled lengths in 2000 ft. If he beats you then he has a bottle of NOS hidden in there someplace.
Agreed. There something else going there. I have driven the doo. An Apex with tuned and clean clutches should smoke any 1200 that has simple add ons, reflashing or not.

ok guys my best friend has a well set up 1200 set up right there are fast.ive seen him beat many sleds and no a stock apex will not beat one that's set up right sorry but its a fact ive seen it many times. In saying that I upgraded to a apex I will let you know how I do and yes my apex will be set up properly. He would beat my rx1 not buy much if I spent more time with my rx1 I know it would be close.Dont get me wrong I love my yamahas one thing my buddy has done made me work harder on my sled because he is the first one to beat my rx1 in a long time.We have raced a lot and we know sleds so anyone who says a stock apex will beat a cudney 1200 set up is wrong unless its not working right

I dont think I said anything about "spanking". He has beat them to varyious degrees, some noticeably, others just barely.Personally i have not. Racing is not my thing. I do it and have done it but its usually just to shut someone up and end all the annoying noises comming out of their mouth. Lol
The 1200 doo with a reflash and header (and probably a muffler) is gonna make similar power to an apex.
Sounds like you need to focus on gearing and clutching and traction.
While i believe your friend has a good running doo, for it to be spanking apexes like you say, i think theres something he is not telling you (internal motor mods, head work, throttle body bored etc)

I apologize.
I will try to pay closer attention. Lol

Best bang for your buck is a good clutch kit. Then gearing and suspension set up. Track choice also very important.
Rider weight also affect performance. Every ten pounds lighter is good for one horsepower. Make sure drive belt is newer. Your Apex motor has 14 hp more than the Doo if both are stock?

The 1200 that I am gunning for has a header, reflash, and clutch kit from Cudney racing. According to what I have been told, the header and reflash makes approx 15 hp. That puts us about equal in power so it will come down to setup. What would you recomend for a track?Best bang for your buck is a good clutch kit. Then gearing and suspension set up. I like 1.25 Camoplast Predator. Top end speed go with the 1.00 inch. Every third window closed.
Your buddy spent some money on his. You turn! Get good advice from
People who know their stuff if they share secrets.
15 Performance horsepower is equal to 30 stock horsepower! [emoji6][emoji6]

I dont think a 1 inch track would cut it for me. Most of our racing is on groomed trails and I think I would need at least a 1.25. What do you mean by your last comment?I like 1.25 Camoplast Predator. Top end speed go with the 1.00 inch. Every third window closed.

not sure what you want to spend but if you get the Ulmer set up air box fuel controller clutch kit and exhaust he should have no chance provided you don't outweigh him by 100 lbs.

Well your motor is 15 hp more stock. But everything else is stock on your Apex. He says that the ecu ref lash adds 10 hp but it could be 20 hp in the midrange. A clutch kit can add 15 hp in midrange but only 5 hp on top end. When u do performance upgrades it is way more hp than stock factory hp. Usually there is lots of room to improve a factory out of box sled.
I used to have a ZRT 800. Wit V force reeds, Predator track and a clutch kit, and gearing I could beat the thunder at 0 to 110 MPH every time! What I am saying is factory hp compared to aftermarket - performance is much different because it may be held back by below average clutching. Just my opinion.

Maybe you should change Gears and look for a Nytro XTX Turbo. I have seen some cheap and that should do the trick!! Might be in the same price range as a Apex with all the mods and you would start with 180 hp !

Put the Ripsaw II on it, you will not regret it. They should have renamed it because most people have negative thoughts on the standard Ripsaw. It is night and day better than the old one. It even looks slightly taller than the 1.25" they list it as.The 1200 that I am gunning for has a header, reflash, and clutch kit from Cudney racing.
