Rode with Kmer this weekend my Jackshaft bearing went 3 weeks ago at 3000 miles, his went this weekend around 5000 miles happened within a half mile of where mine went out. You tell me Yamaha doesn't have an issue here we were both lucky it happened so close to home unlike poor Iron Dog we were able to limp back .

Convert,
So glad you were close to home. Yes indeed...you know they've got to know there's a problem with this bearing. Hopefully they do something about it before it causes a bad accident...or worst.
As for me, it's been snowing non stop since last Mon. Had the chopper standing by....but no go. Talked to the Heli guides Fri. They're estimating 4-5 ft. has fallen above 4000ft. in the last week, (my baby sits at 5000ft.)another 2ft. over the weekend. But the weather is supposed to break starting tomorrow. Got a buddy with a plane, will try to flight and spot it first, before I send the chopper up. At $1,572 hr. I gotta get her on the first try!! will keep ya'll posted.

Did the bearings fail, or this a collar related failure? Did you grease the bearing at all? Were you able to tell if the bearing ran out of grease? I had a 96 Storm that had grease fittings on both bearings. I don't know why any sled would be with-out them.

Iron Dog, what broke?
Can you take a crew of buddies up the mountain (with parts and tools) and fix it where it sits?

RX1 Yooper mine was caused by the collar coming loose Not sure what caused Kmer's we didn't pull it apart but you could see what looked like the inner race of the bearing on the jackshaft on the inside of the bearing mount toward the engine. Still waiting to hear what Kmer found when he got back to Sioux Lookout.

JDKRXW..see my post "Is Yamaha admitting to Jackshaft problem.

Yooper...will know more when I retrieve her...bearing looked dry I think..
