Picked up an 09 phazer mtx this year. Been on a couple of rides so far. Warmers seem to work intermittently. When riding in 20 degrees at 30 miles an hour on the trail this week I couldn't even tell they were on, even though they were turned all the way up. They got warm a few times but it seems to come and go throughout the day. Same with the thumb warmer. Cool to the touch when idling. The guy I ride with also has an 09 mtx and he's having the same experience.
Is this how it is with these sleds?
I've looked around at the other posts and not seen many complaints about the phazer handwarmers. Is this a fluke? We both messed around some with our cables/wires off the handlebars trying to accommodate riser extensions and speedo remounts etc. But nothing seems too tight. Do the connections tend to be weak?

the hand warmers on my 09 rtx are almost as good as my 03 viper warmers - i wear wells lamont insulated work gloves - big windshield helps - i run my 2 or 3 clicks most of the time - all the way up too much for on anything but long straights.
Like rock said in the past some components are in spec some are not. My 09 rtx had very cold warmers even on high. With rocks set up my hand warmers are warm even on the coldest days i ride. The new yamahheaters are even easier wth plug and play and no cutting any existing wiring harness. They work as advertised no question.

It sounds like getting a sled with warmers that work is a crap shoot. I talked to two dealers. One said that yamaha handwarmers are generally inadequate, including the phazer's. The other said that mine is the only complaint he has had.
Otter, thanks for the Yamaheater link. I checked out the site. Helpful. I looked at the FAQ page. The only question I was left with is - If Rock can figure out and fix the problem, why can't yamaha?

Mine ae ok or burning my F-in hands off especially the thumb. Ive had to just shut the thumb off several times cause it almost hurts. Then liked you guys states almost nothing. I know Kathadin gear is mabey not top notch but I have their highest end leather gloves,no windsheils, and no hand guards and Im quite warm in 0 degree weather so far. Plus Phazer rideing seems to keep ya warm anyways.

There is some debate that the heat is heat sinked away to the handle bars, at least on the 07s. I heard of some trying to add a thin layer of insulation between the heater element and the bar with some success.
I ride in Manitoba. Get's cold hear. I've got 3 different brands of sleds. The Phazer hand warmers are poor at best and a distant 3rd of the brands.
Riding today in -20C (-4F) with a good wind added to it. I ran Choko's hand protectors over the bars. For the first time I was confortable in this weather.

RedPhazer was complaining about his warmers also while mine are great.I rode most of day with just Underarmor gloves on.Both of us have same windshield so there must be some difference just remains to be seen what it is.

It was -10 here the last ride I made and used 4 bars or about half. They have been great.

Starting to think its the ECU and some differences that are causing some to have issues.Rocks mod bypasses the ECU I believe.Probably why it works so well.

I've owned a 99 SRX 700, a 03 Viper, and currently a 07 Phazer. Grip warmers worked fine on all 3 sleds. Many factors to consider here. Did you just get done dressing with no gloves on in 10 degree weather and then start your ride beginning with cold hands? Are you simply sitting on the seat exerting little or no energy and then riding at high speed with cold wind chill contributing?
Do my hands get cold sometimes? Of coarse. Ever stop for a break and take your gloves off? Hands ever get cold again? Everyone I've ever ridden with regardless of machine brand has at times had cold hands. I think this is a reasonable expectation for a winter outdoor activity. Once we start riding and get the blood pumping we all warm up again and usually to the point of perspiration. This is why the temp setting is adjustable. Cold has never been an issue for me in 11 seasons of riding (Canada included). I believe it is all relative.

Definetly some issues with the warmers on my son's 07 Phazer. I purchased the Yamheaters from Rock this year and worth every penny. Just got back from the UP and no more cold hands. This was the first Yamaha that I purchased, still a litlle upset that I had to purchase something that should be part of the stock sled (along with the tunnel enclsure).
