I only have around 1200 miles on my 07 FX and im wondering if I should swap out my new spare belt inplace of my original. I don't think there is anything wrong with the original, I just want peak performance out of my little trail rocket..

i didn't see any fall off until around 2500 miles and even then it wasn't bad - i really noticed after do some off trail and powder riding - i cleaned it up and got another 500 before i changed it. if you just wash it and give it a light scuffing with a wire brush, it should be good unless you see some severe glazing on the sides.

Yes belts last forever on these sleds.Just keep and eye on how its riding in secondary. It will go lower as it wears.Wont have as much pull on lowend on takeoff. At that point you will need to decide to buy a new belt or reshim the secondary to gain back performance.Shimming works but really effects top end.Keep in mind that all belts even new arent exactly the same so when you get a good one match others as close as you can.On mine the belt is about 1/8in above the outer edge of secondary. If you have reverse update it will need to be even or a little lower to help reverse engage better.

I would personally. I like to run a 2 belt system that keeps both belts wore about the same. I swap them every 500 miles that way when I NEED the spare the clutches will be set properly for the belt. There will be no need to change the secondary shimming for maximum performance.
