my battery is geting weak on my 06 er. when have you guys had to replace them? it looks like there is alot of stuff in the way to change it?

that all depends on how the battery has been taken care of. if it has been filled right and charged right, also battery tended when in not use for extended periods (summer) than it should last about eight years. do most of us see that life? no. when i bought my sled in 08 (model yr 06) the battery was weak so i replaced it. so my guess was it was not properly taken care of. the batteries in our sleds are lifelines. if you have any question as to its life, REPLACE it. to change the battery you must pull the headlight pod, and remove the air box. while your there you might as well change the oil filter and oil. its pretty easy, just take your time.

Do a load test.Only true way to know. You can even do a simple one at home.Fully charged batt hook up voltmeter and crank the sled while watching voltmeter. It should never go below 11.5v and preferably stay at 12 or above.Doesnt hurt to refill with distilled water either. Most batts are not truly sealed so you can do this.Just be careful not to overfill or you will end up with acid all over sled.

Whenever the battery in my 4wheeler goes to junk (the winch takes a big toll on it...), battery from sled goes into 4-wheeler and a new one in the sled. 4wheeler has a pull start, it may rip your arms out, but it CAN be started without a battery. It also doesn't go far from home, so its not as big of a deal. Sled though... don't want that failing on you!

I take care of my battery and use an Optimate Charger whenever I'm not riding for a month or more. I was having issues with a "weak" battery in my 06 Attak. Took the battery out and had a "load test" done in April 2010, they said it was all good. ;)! Put it back in the sled and hooked up the Optimate for the summer. By July the charger was saying it was no good. :o| Last month I tore it all apart again and pulled the battery back out and put a new one in (like I should have done in April). ;)! IMHO 4 -5 seasons is pretty darn good, don't try and push another season, it may leave you stranded.

Not to hijack the threat, but I figure NytroD will probably have the same question...Where's a good place to pick up a new battery?

I bought the best battery they had at a battery shop called Battery Wholesale (chain store). Sealed Gel battery less than $80.

do you have a part number for that ?

According to my owners manual, my Attak takes a "YTX14-BS" battery. I assume most of the Yammi's use the same type?

I say if you have doubt, replace it. seeing as we do not have recoil start on our sleds, it could leave you stranded if you dont have jumpers, and a butty with a sled that also has a battery.

I dont agree with you guys.If battery is working and passes all the tests keep running it.There are good and bad batteries and it is very good odds that new battery you buy could be a piece of junk.Stick with Yuasa or Deka.Dont be conned into the fancy higher amp batteries. All they do is stick more plates or whatever in them for higher AMP rating and more plates means more possibility of them shorting. All it takes is one bump to do that.Stick with stock or Deka which is made in USA,PA.
