I've checked out the other three manufacturers.
Why do they still make a 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000?
Does the market really call for all the different engine sizes?
Most comparisons are 600cc class which includes Yamaha's 120HP three cylinder motor and the 135HP Nytro three cylinder motor.
And the other comparison is usually a 1000cc class, which includes Yamaha'a 150HP four cylinder motor.

Chassis are quite similar between them.
The cost to build a twin cylinder liquid cooled 500, 600, 700, 800, or 900, must be very similar.
I think the increased cost goes into the improved accessories and options such as the suspension and shocks.
