where to buy copper donuts

donuts, how I did some simple modifications

just a thought, I had to remove and replace my Y pipe when I did my donuts last winter. when I replaced the Y pipe I put some thread locker on the bolt that holds the Y pipe in place. I did not totally seat the bolt, left it loose about one turn, this allows for some play when the motor flexes. I also removed the two bolts that hold the silencer at the back of the sled and took a dremell tool and made them oval, front to back. also left those two bolts slghtly loose but with thread locker on them .Now the whole exhaust has some play when the motor flexes. I also put some high temperature silicone around the donut clamps. I did the rag test this year and the motor died within seconds, seems to be working great. 4,000 km on the sled since the donut replacement. I know the exhaust is flexing because when I first start the sled it makes a little exhaust rattle noise until it gets hot, then the pipe and silencer expands and the noise stops, within 20 seconds of getting on and driving the sled the sled. I had to wait two weeks last year for my Y pipe to come in so I examined the exhaust to find out why they are wearing out on everyones sleds, definetly an expansion contraction problem in the whole exhaust. I think Yamaha knows about the problem but they refuse to change their exhaust design, if the exhaust is not allowed to move back and fourth slightly when the motor moves, you are going to wear out your donuts every two years or so. just my thoughts on the subject, I know others may not agree with my modifications, but you can always put it back the other way if you dont like it, no permanent damage.

Hi everyone, just thought I would give an update on my exhaust donut modification. just went out to the garage today and did the wet rag test. no problems, still working great. no backfiring, idles perfectly, sled runs great. I have almost 16,000 km on sled now and only one set of replacements donuts have been installed on the sled. I did the modification several years ago and several thousands of kms of riding. simple fix, I don't plan on taking the sled all apart to do a visual check.

^^^^^^^That is what the flex pipes are for IMO
X2 on the flex pipes. My donuts have lasted on my warrior quite well since I tossed the titanium junk pipes and replaced with stainless ones. Plus I ground the clamps on the donuts a tad so they tightened better and now have put 8,000 miles on them clamps still tight, donuts still tight and so is the rest of the system.

exactly what i finialy did on my 07 gt and it was the last time i was in by the pipes held for over 5000 miles and is still prolly holding with its new owner

I also ground down the clamps and packed them with high temp silicone when I replaced the donuts several years ago, I had to replace the Y pipes, so I installed the new stainless ones. but I think my other modification's are helping as well. The sled make a slight metal vibrating noise when its cold and when the pipes expand, after going down the trail about a mile the vibration noise disappears for the rest of the ride. I know the flex pipes have corrugations in them for expansion, but the corrugations seem to rigid to be useful in my opinion. also note, I used the original Yamaha donuts when I did the replacement, I did not know the copper ones were available at the time.

I have them in stock. Can ship in the USA or Canada as well. 605-387-2833
