Where to start with clutching a SC Nytro?

Got out for some more testing yesterday and had GREAT snow!! Bottomless powder pretty much everywhere. The lever was held to the bar most of the day. As a side note to the clutching I LOVE how the Nytro handles!!

Setup yesterday:
Heal 7.6
Mid 0
Tip 0
aprox 69.6 total weight
O-P-O Primary spring
Rollers 16.5
Pink seconday at 70
Shockwave straight rate at 42

At aprox 7,000 feet in deep soft snow doing mild hill climbs my take-off RPMs were 8900+ and full shift out varied back and forth from about 8400 to 8600. My jetting is definately off and now that clutcing is getting closer I will start messing with jetting. The sled ran noticably better as we dropped back down in elevation.

The bad news is I was only getting 47 mph track speed on these climbs. The wifes stock Nytro was 37 mph, but I am used to well over 60 mph on my turbo'ed RX-1. Am I not shifting our far enough under load?

I got my 14.5 mm rollers yesterday, but didn't have a chance to install them before we left. I need them as I am getting some belt slipage at low speeds.

I am thinking the next steps are to install the smaller rollers, remove a couple more grams from the heal, increase helix angle, and possibly go to a silver secondary spring. (and work on jetting)

You hit the nail on the head there. You should really get the AFRs dialed-in before you get too serious about clutching. Are you still running the 153 Mav on both sleds ??? If you put a longer stiffer lug track on yours it will make a big difference in ground speed vs track speed. Do you have any old Yam weights laying around you can experiment with similar in profile to 8BU's ???

8BU-00 (49.7grams) 17.2mm rivets (9grams) total 58.7 grams
Primary 14.5mm rollers / Blue-Pink-Blue (30-96)
Secondary white spring 60* good all-around setting
45* on the adjustable helix good all-around setting

No guarantees on whether or not this will work for you because it will take on-the-snow testing in your riding environment, adjusting to your specific set of conditions, and adjusted to your personal preferences.

Looking good Spray25

How is your power level on the FX Nytro MTX compared to your RX-1M Turbo?

I'm sure when you have fuel delivery tuned to perfection she'll be a lot stronger.

This last trip I had the 162 camo extreme on mine vs. the 153 maverick on the wife's sled. I loved the 8bu-00's on my turbo. I have been thinking about trying those on this one. I just really like the adjustablility of the Supertips vs. rivets on the 8bu's. I'm still not convinced that the 60G supertips are not to heavy.

The sled feels more responsive off the line than my turbo, but at this point the top end is just not there compared to my RX-turbo. I beleive it is still setup issues. I had 5 years of playing with the RX vs. 4 rides on the Nytro. Like I mentioned earlier there is, at this point, a big diferrence in track speed. 47 vs. 60++

I'm putting in the 14.5mm rollers the silver secondary and will start playing with AF ratios. If this doesn't make me happy I will likely try the 8bu's.

Normally I don't revive old threads but I never did get my clutches working right last year. With winter coming I want figure out what I should be trying. I didn't spend a lot of time last year clutching, however, my problems were consistent. To many rpms on take off then on long climbs the clutches get hot and my rpms get lower and lower. Typically 9,000 on take off and if I do enough runs my shift out rpms can drop in the low 8,000's.

I ended the season with a silver secondary at 80. I did try the stiffer pink and white but when I did I could not get the primary to fully shift. I would typically be 1" from the top. I could at least get the silver to the top.

Here is what I ended the season with:
50 gram Super Tips
Heal 11
Mid 3.9
Tip 0
Total 65.9
Primary Spring O-P-O
Rollers 14.5

Helix 46
Secondary spring Silver
Degrees 80 (I think)
Gearing 22/40
Track 162
Track speed 47mph YUCK!!

I am dropping gearing to 19/40 for sure. Gearing up was a mistake. I never did try the 8bu's. That may still be a possibility.

So any thoughts?

If your clutches are getting hot, I would try a shallower helix. Maybe a 43, or maybe even a 41, then you dont have to run a crazy stiff secondary spring to get good side pressure. If your still getting slip/heat, you may want to set that sec spring to 90 or 100 degrees.
Once you get to point where your no longer slipping the belt, I would leave the secondary alone. Then tune your rpms/shift spread with the primary. I would try the 8BUs for sure since they will load the motor pretty good on the lower end of the spread.
I perfer to tune to a straight shift with the primary, instead of using multi-angled helixes, for mountian use.

Guys how fast are these Nytros at about 11 psi? They must be very fast super light? Faster than a RX1 at 11psi???

Thank you Skydog P.S. I know hard to answer just looking for any info...

No way buddy, not even close to the old lady LOL

The RX-1 and Apex engines makes more power boosted lbs for lbs over the FX Nytro. And with a SC you will give away a few more HP just to make the power, but you know all about that :-)

Example stage 2 Nytro 280+ HP, stage 1 Apex 290+ HP.

Sorry for not answering your question, honestly I don't know much about that. Top speed my bet goes for the old RX, wholeshot the Nytro should be fast.

ha ha ha Right on buddy that is waht i was thinking, but that little Nytro is light light light! :) :)

SKYDOG...........Where ya been hiding? Nice to see you again this season!
Sorry to see the RX1 gone, but I'm sure you'll like the Nytro.
Happy boosting!

Well after much thought and debate here is how I am going to start the season.

Primary
8bu-00 4.5 rivets aprox 58 grams
14.5 rollers
W-S-W

Secondary
silver
80 degrees
Helix OEM 39

19/40 gearing

If I am not happy with that then I have the super tips with 15 grams in the heal and 3 in the mid ready to install.

I have now looked at a couple of SC'ed sleds that all have low engagement rpms and small rollers. The primaries all show rubber in the bottom indicating belt slip on take off. With 14.5 rollers and lots of weight in the heal the only other thing I can come up with is to raise the engagement so there is more force on the belt on take off. That is part of the reason for the W-S-W.

Now if I could just get some snow!!!!
