My buddy totalled my 08 Nytro and i am looking for a new sled. My Nytro was just OK, i ride mostly groomed trails and the Nytro is not a great handling trail sled. My question is, was the suspension on the Attack RTX different in 06 ands if so, can anyone with experience on the different years, give me some input on what they thought of the front and rear suspensions? Also, will an Attack compare to the Nytro?
Don't have much input on the Nytro, but the 06 RTX differs from the newer years in that it had the same monoshock rear suspension as the ER and GT models. It did have Fox Floats up front, however. I currently have an 06 ER and have no complaints, but if I had to do it all over again I would likely opt for the Attak (or LTX) model. It does look like they've made a few changes to the Apex/Attak line since 08, but going from a 10 plus gallon fuel tank to 9.4 seemed kind of puzzling to me. In my opinion if you want a great groomed trail sled and are willing to make a few minor adjustments it would be hard to miss with an Apex or Attak!

There is no such thing as an Attak RTX. In 2006, there was only the Attak in the 136" track length. In 2007, Yamaha introduced the Attak and the Attak GT, the latter having the Ohlins premium shocks. In 2008, the Attak was renamed Apex LTX and Apex LTX GT.Csellors said:...was the suspension on the Attack RTX different in 06 ands if so, can anyone with experience on the different years, give me some input on what they thought of the front and rear suspensions? I own both a 06 and 07 Attak. Blindfold me and I couldn't tell the difference between the two sleds.
You started by saying you are a groomed trail rider. That is what I do and I love my Attak sleds. Daily trips of 200-300 miles and never sore the next day.

No the Attack/LTX will not compare to a Nitro, they are different sleds. 136" compared to a 121" the 150HP motor compared to the 120HP motor. I have an 06 and 07 Attack and I love them. As far as I can tell the bar riser on the 06 is shorter by an inch, but other then that they are the same. The attack will be faster and ride smoother than the Nitro and could possibly handle better if the Nitro had a poor set-up and the attack a good set-up. If you ride mostly trails get an attack then get a rear heat exchanger, and a 13mm sway bar, shorten the limiter strap one hole, lower the front end by making the springs longer, reduce the weight transfer to halfway between standard and minimum, fill it up with gas and go.
Other than that I would say go test ride some demo sleds. Good luck!

I agree with this assesment. I have the Apex GT which has the shorter track but you are hard pressed to find a better trail sled. I added the 13mm sway bar, skid plate, taller windshield, aftermarket skis, and studs.
It was a good sled before I added the aftermarket stuff but it is a great sled with the additional mods. I love just about everything about this sled now that I have it setup for my weight and riding style.
Good Luck!

I ran a RX1 '05 ER shorty 121" for 12.000kms and realy liked it and I now ride a APEX LTX '08 136" and wouldn't go back to a 121" on groomed trails, its so much more STABLE straighter running on high speeds lakes and rail lines and the ride is much smoother, in twistie and tight trails its as good or even better than a shorty you have a lot more traction out of the corners and more bracking traction...the only real up grade on a '08 is the exhaust got a extra support at the header and muffler junction and a revised chaincase cover everything else is pretty well the same as the '07, oh 1 last thing the HANDWARMERS is a joke!
NO HEAT and whatever ATTAK or LTX you buy install a rear heat exchanger

I have an 06 Attak, 06 Apex GT (for sale), and 2 07 Apex RTX's (selling one). Sled of choice for me is the Attak. My son prefers the RTX. They all ride great but the Attak is the smoothest and most stable for most conditions.
Good Luck.
