This question is on behalf of my parents who are in their late 60's, currently own a pair of 01 Vmax Deluxe 700's, and are looking to upgrade to 4stroke for 08.
They trail ride in Western New York, Ontario, and Wyoming. They are casual cruisers, you won't see them off trail out west. My father likes to go out and run with my friends and I once in a while (He can keep up), but for the most part they putts around at 25-45mph.
The most important thing for them is trail comfort and the ability to saddle bag tour.
What 07 or 08 would be the best??? The Apex GT is a candidate because of the on the fly features and great monoshock ride. The new Vector GT is the power range they are used to but no on the fly. They loved their Phazers back in the 80's, but I have no experience on the new Phazer and they are concerned about its seat comfort, warmth, and looks. They want a warm and comfortable ride, No long tracks, and easy to handle.
Thoughts & Ideas???

I would take a look at a 06 or an 07 Rage
Long track nice mild motor
Quality through out
The 973 motor is a great motor
There is a dealer in lee Nh that is selling them out the door for 6900 so I am sure in your area they can get the same or better deal....

I cant imagine them wanting to get used to a rider forward design.
The President of my buddies snowmobile club wants to upgrade to 4 stroke from his Viper. He wants to buy my 05 RX1. He likes the motor and the sit back seating for trail cruising over the more fwd seating. PK
I converted my 05 and 03 Rx1's to rider forward bars and raised seat. Don't you think rider forward seating is more comfortable and much less cramped??

I would say the 08 vector.. gets 20MPG and almost as fast as a apex.. and lighter too..
Dont get the GTs... The rear shock wiring just wont hold up over time.. and it doesnt ride any better than the standard..

I have a 2006 Apex GT and my son has a 2007 Apex RTX. He recently took my sled for a ride to gas up before we hit the trails, and commented that his RTX rides like a lumber wagon compared to the comfort of the GT. He still likes the RTX on the rougher trails, but for everyday riding comfort, the Apex GT is hard to beat. At the start of the the season, I rode all of the Apexes, from the ER, to the RTX, to the GT, and the longer track Attack. Once you ride all of them , you'll appreciate the GT. The Ohlins definately make for a better ride. ( evident by what they're putting on the 08's ) and as far as the wiring harness? I've had no problems, and if it really bothers you, dealers will re-route the wiring for you.

No question at all, the Rage is your best bet for everything they want!
Nice comfort, plenty power, smooth power, great mpg, handwarmers that work [Apex models don't], great ride with the 136", handle well & nice looking sled too!

They won't buy a long track, had them once before and will never again. They are concerned with the size.

They really should try the rage.Have they had a chance to compare late models?I'm 72 & I ride an 07 attak.I've had the 03 RX1/04 warrior/05RX1 & 06 Apex. Iwouldn't go back to a short track. But then again ---whatever fits & makes them happy.

My uncle just bought a new 2007 Vector GT (black) and really likes it alot. He was a Yammie rider, moved to Polaris in 1993 and finally came back to Yamaha because of the 4 stroke engine lineup. He keeps raving how smooth it is and what a great ride it has. With the clicker shocks up front and the dial adjust on the tunnel for the rear, it quickly made Yamaha one of the easiest ride adjust sleds you can get.
PS: he's my Dad's twin bro and they are 70 yrs. old but they can really ride for their age. They walk 5 miles a day and are in great shape. After riding with relatives yesterday my bro in law mentioned how good they can ride for being 70. I think the new sled helped him step 'er up a notch too.
