What is the verdict? What did you buy her?

No decision yet. When we get to Hay Days we'll have her at least sit on different models and test the "feel".
Initially lots of positive comments about the Phazer but also several complaints about seat comfort. Comfort is king for our style riding so I'm hesitant about a Phazer.
We're just trail riders so I don't see where weight would be a factor - hard to get stuck on a groomed trail. In that sense - Attak? We have one shorty and the rest are 136 & longer it makes such a huge difference when you're riding trails on Saturday when they've been beat to crap.
Haven't seen a Vector in person but that's certainly an option. Speed and power are not high on the list here
If we're lucky we'll buy a sled at Hay Days but at a minimum I want to come away from their knowing what sled to buy.
Thanks again for the input - I'll update when we pull the trigger.

Thats is why I recommend the XTX Nytro the comfort will be there as well as the power and the ability to go in deeper snow if she or you want to go there while still handling like a 121 on the trail. She will love it.

If I was buying a brand new Yamaha it would be a black XTX.

My experience at Haydays the last few years is that there is not much available for Yamaha 4 strokes and a lot of those that are available are not in the best of shape. Once you figure out what you want you are probably better off finding one from a private party. I was looking for a Phazer last year and there were not many available, I ended up finding one on Craigslist that was a almost new and a good deal. If you are looking for a phazer let me know and I will check out one that just went for sale near me. I just noticed a white one for sale outside a Kawasaki dealer in my town that they must have taken in on trade. I don't know any of the details on it.

Sinjin - We've never been to HayDays but my impression was that we'd find tons of great sleds for sale. Apparently not so :-(
At a minimum we hope to "touch/feel" the different models so Megan (my daughter) can decide which model we're going after.
SledDog - I hear what you're saying about the XTX but here's my concern. When we go North it's virtually always Thurs-Sunday and the Saturday rides are always rough as can be because the trails are beat to a pulp and full of moguls. I get the idea behind the XTX in terms of powder - a 121 until you sink a bit in powder and then the tail section would act like a long track.
But on a hardpack trail I don't think it would "sink" enough to act like a long track - just a 121 on moguls - which sux :-(
Is that your expereience with the XTX?

Bob, MY advice would be to find a Rage or Vector LTX. Great useable power with the 136 ride. Good handling with proper setup. I rode the Prototype XTX and the transition from 121-144 is transparent. Bridges stutters and whoops but still turns like a 121 in tight stuff. I would own one but have the power and ride and flotation with my Attak now that is 144'd. Only drawback is the XTX gets bettr fuel mileage. EH, I'll take my Attak. It's paid for LOL!!

Bob, there lots of deals at HayDays on clothing and other accessories. In terms of used sleds, I don't recall seeing that many in the past.

I would look into a 06 + vector or apex as I never noticed a huge difference in ride quality between a 121 and 136 on the trails...

My recommendation is to go with a Venture Lite...comfy, nimble, light (every sled is heavy when stuck) and not overly powerful.
I don't think it's wise to stick a new rider on a sled like a Nytro or Apex, too much power to begin with, which could result in disaster.
Another plus is the Venture Lite will be considerably cheaper.

Bob I dont own one YET but the long track should bridge the stutter bumps and moguls quite well.

There is nothing wrong with the seat that a lot of people think. It looks intimidating, because its narrow but once you actyually ride the sled you'll know that it is very comfy. The phazer would be best. Hands down. I won't try to repeat what everyone else said but the phazer is lighter, has awsome power without overdoing it, and is more appealing to younger people, cheaper, and from 15 year old girls riding mine, they say they love it. Change the carbides, to shapers, or dulies, and shes set. This is my opinion. But what you should be doing is when you go, check out all the sleds in your price range, see what she feels comfortable on(keep in your mind 150hp to begin is just a little much) and find your best deal whether nytro, phazer, or any other. Best of luck!

For the money you want to spend I would definitely look at a 06 rage. 136 in. track, mono-shock rear, bullet proof motor. My aunt and uncle just bought a pair of Rages last year and love them.

Ok, here's the update.
I'm on the hunt for a black Attak.
-----
We went to Haydays and checked out sleds. The Yamaha rep @the factory tent suggested the Vector would best fit our riding style.
I discovered that the new Vector would be great...but it was just redesigned this year so it's too much $$$. She did love the "feel" of it though.
The rep steered us away from the Nytro XTX & RTX. His comments were that they'd be great sleds but are intended for a more aggresive style. If we're looking to get off trail - go with those.
She sat on a Phazer but didn't like the seat or the ergonomics.
That left me thinking that an Attak would have the same feel as the new Vector, but it would be more in line with a $5k budget.
Thanks again for all the input. I'll let you know when I get the new horse in the stable ;-)
