IMO I say the Apex ER with a higher shield. The wife, a friend & myself have ridden both the lower seating position of the 05 yamaha in comparison to the rider forward body position of the 06 Apex and we all like the rider forward riding style better. Also EFI.
Go with a pair of 06 or 07 GT Vectors. Great ride, good gas mileage, nice and warm, ( upgrade the windshield to the next size up ) and you can buy them at a good price now.
