Which is the correct oil filter???

I went to the dealer today and got an oil filter and some Yamalube CW oil.

The dealer gave me an oil filter ending in Part # 6010.

When I get to the oil filter that's on the sled (It's the original filter, sled only has 500 miles) the part # ends in 5390.

They look the same, I did a search on this site, and didn't find the part # for the oil filter, and I also looked in the owners manual, but it only indicates how much oil the sled takes, but no oil filter is listed.

P.S> What's everyone bitching about. It literally took me 5 minutes to take the air box out, battery out, and battery bracket - and this is my first oil change on a sled.

I didn't think the first oil change was too bad. Hardest part was getting the battery bracket bolts and side cowl screws loose. Them Japanese boys are using German torque on everything. Don't remember the oil filter # but same as R1 street bike. One local guy paid $200 to have his first change done(sucker). I would have done it for $150

Turbo50mike, its the same filter as the R6, 5GH-13440-00-00.

Supertech ST6607 from Wal-Mart for $1.97 interchanges with the Yamaha 5GH-13440-00-00

I use the ST6607 on my Raptor and change it after every ride.

It comes from the bad old days of air cooled 4 stroke dirt / trail bikes which only held 1 quart of oil (and most had no filter either).
If you had one of those bikes...... changing the oil after a hard ride was definitely a good idea. I had a 250R Honda that would get so hot, I really wondered how that thing would stay running.

I just change the filter and top off the oil pretty much for the reason JDKRXW describes. Quads live in nasty, dirty environment.

The Raptor takes 2.1 qts. to change the oil and filter so for two bucks a pop I swap out the filter and top off the oil until the third quart is gone then get another 3 quarts of 20W50 and do it over again. The filter's right out in the open so it's like a 5 minute job, counting the beer. :wink:

I used the Yamaha filter and oil on my RX1, changed both at 500 miles, again at 2,500 then traded it at just under 4,500 miles. I'll probably do the same with the Rage as the sledding season is so short the extra few $$ is worth the peace of mind to avoid down time.

Forgot about the dirty atmosphere those vehicles are in. I also forgot they only take a few quarts. I just changed the oil on the wifes car, 7.5 quarts, I wish my truck had that much capacity.

Keven, get a Cummins if you want capacity. 13 quarts with the filter.

I ain't goin' to no stinkin' diesel yet! I'll stick with my gasser for now. Need to purchase other toys yet.
