OK I am ready to get a new sled . getting rid of my vector gt and wanting a viper. test rode a viper xtx se was very impressed. but I do 80% trail riding so which model do you all think is the best. I wish they came with a option of prestudded tracks. plz give all your input on which rides the best and turns the best on trail. . I don't want to wish I had gotten a different model.

For me I knew I was getting a blue one because every yamaha I've owned is blue and that's just how it is for me. Knowing what I know now, I wish yamaha offered just the base model in blue. My ltx is just too stiff for me and I weigh 230. Lots of guys have the same input that the sled is too stiff. The base model ltx that my buddy owns rides like a dream. It is very plush. But it has no color options. The ideal sled for me (knowing what I do now) would be a base model ltx in blue. They have the coil over front shocks rather than the fox floats which really don't have a sweet spot in my opinion and the rear suspension is much more plush. Plus the base model has the heated seat which certainly would be nice at negative temps. If I was to do it again and my only option to get a blue viper was to buy the se then I still would have done it but if you have no color preference and want a sweet trail riding sled that you can stay seated on and ride hard then go with a base model ltx. If you don't mind standing up and just pounding the trails the se is great for that. Xtx may be a little much for just trail riding but I know the xtx guys are loving how their sleds ride.

I love mine, LTX SE, maybe a little stiff. If your not jumping or hitting big bumps or ditch banging I would get the LTX. More options and a more softer ride. I like it a little stiff, but I am going to change the oil in my rear skid shock to make it a little softer. I like the floats because they really take a hit and take jumps well. If I had the coils I would be bottoming a lot. But the LTX is going to give you a better ride in the bumps and won't lose really anything in the handling department over the RTX. So if I had it all over again I would choose the same sled.

I agree with studroes but I wanted the red one. Learned my lesson with past sleds that I wanted something comfortable over something that looks cool.
The LTX 137 is a flipp'n Cadillac. Didn't do much to it either. Just took out the transfer blocks and put dual carbides on it. That's it. Almost 900 miles later...still happy. Might throw some mirrors on it here soon. Tims comment about bottoming out is valid. I don't ride it THAT hard and have bottomed it out a few times already.
Would have been really cool with a blacked out tunnel and powdercoated rails tho. Seems you cant have it all.

Yes we are all out tearing it up! I think if you are going to trail 80% The LTX is your best bet. I have the XTX and it is a handful. I have installed $1500 evol RC2 front shocks and tried 3 different carbide setups on the stock skis and 2 diff carbides on the Simmons skis to get it to cut a corner. It still has a wicked push on certain snow conditions and with 32" of carbide on the front steers harder than an Apex pre EPS.
Add a turbo and you can take the corners slow and run em down on the straights.

It's pretty simple, if you spend the majority of your time on trail then the LTX makes more sense than an XTX. The LTX will still let you go off trail and if you get an LE model next year you'll even get a track better suited to off trail (1.7")

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to buy a viper and I can't decide between an XTX or standard LTX. I trail ride mainly so comfort and handling is important but hook up and corner to corner acceleration and speed is what I "enjoy" the most. I don't ride balls out around the corners anymore due to almost being creamed by sleds on the wrong side of the trail so I can't see how the XTX couldn't be tuned for decent handling. And from what I've read the XTX hook up is great. I suppose the other option is LTX and remove the transfer blocks but will the hook up match that XTX's? Probably not. Z broz make a transfer block kit for the XTX and that could help tame the ski lift if I want to pick up the pace in the turns. Tough decisions. Tough decisions.
12pointer, where did you get to test ride the Vipers? Yamaha was not in Minocqua, WI for demo rides this year. I'm pissed because that would have helped me make my decision and I don't see any demo rides scheduled for WI.
