Went out today 23-Mar-11 -25c -35c with the windchill. Trails were rock hard still lots of snow. Temperatures have been holding steady and not much melting since our big dump 5 days ago. Today I drove the top A trail to Kapuskasing, Ontario, Canada (sorry no photos of Top A to cold). We decided to try and find a old river log shoot on the Opasatika river. There's an old rail bed that heads North from Kapuskasing off the Top A. This rail bed was used to bring logs down to the town of Kapuskasing. Still tons of snow in the bush. The snow wasn't the greatest as it had a nice 2-3 inch layer of icy crust on but it was still very nice to ride. 118km off trail riding great day for a 23-March run. We still have a lot of snow around town if anyone is thinking of heading up this way over the weekend.
This is the old rail bed that still goes North we turned west onto the old rail line heading towards the Opasatika River
View south came from Kapuskasing
A couple of photos of the trail heading west
These are of the old log shoot. I guess there was a lift of some kind to take the logs ot of the water and up onto the rail line.
