I was told to do this by a friend who used to race cross country. I bought a 1/4" end mill and staggered 2" long slots the length of the hyfax to collect snow and ice. used a piece of rectangle tubing that the hyfax slides into perfectly clamped into a vice and just fed it through the drill press by hand through the tube. Works well. Got 700 miles out of the original set and 2200 on the second set after milling the slots and probably could have made another 500 but figured since I was working on it what the hell. I set the press to only mill deep enough to get to the wear line , don't go all the way through. I personally won't put in another set without doing this.
