Why do the DuPont slides not have inserts all the way to the end? Also what about the MTX version slides do they have more inserts than the standard slides?

I think the inserts are held in place by the plastic around them and some applications require trimming the length so they shorten them a bit to work for all applications

They do not even have enough for 121 length. The stop well short of the axle and that is where they wear out about 3 more inserts would make a world of difference on the duponts and increase thier life by 50%. And I have tried to find out about the mountain Duponts but no one knows.

I do not know but if you are worried about life I know the set on my 14 XTX had 3500 miles on them when I stuck that skid into the 15 and it now has 1500 more miles on them and they look like new. that is running 225 + hp with a 1.6" track and mostly running on low snow conditions the last 2 yrs. The stock slides on the 14 were pulled at 1400 miles and showed no wear and replaced because I hd the skid out to put the hygear linkage and shocks in it.
I do know they make part # SMA-dpssv-mt-00 that fits up to 174" track. you could check them out but they cost double the shorties so the better last 2 times longer.

I get about 3,000 to 3,500 miles on the Duponts but I could get 4,500 plus if the inserts went back a bit further! I know all about the longer Duponts but where do the inserts end is the million dollar question that no can answer!

I will try and remember to measure the ones on my 153 sidewinder and report back when i pull the skid to setup for asphalt in the next couple weeks.I get about 3,000 to 3,500 miles on the Duponts but I could get 4,500 plus if the inserts went back a bit further! They do not have inserts all the way to the end so they can be cut down for the shorter sleds as you can't easily cut through the DuPont vespel material - typically the 144" length slides are used on sleds all the way down to the 121" length so the DuPont vespel inserts stop at the 121" length. The MTX slides do have more inserts in them than the regular length ones and have inserts all the way to what would normally be considered the 144" length. Why do the DuPont slides not have inserts all the way to the end? Also what about the MTX version slides do they have more inserts than the standard slides?
Million dollar question?? Put the check in the mail!! We have been doing this little trick for years on the 144" Nytro and Apex models - The longer MTX style Duponts inserts end at the 144" mark so if you have a Nytro or Apex XTX and want Duponts that run the full length of the slide buy the MTX style and cut them down and they will fit and have Dupont inserts the entire length of the slide for a 144" Nytro XTX or Apex XTX application. See pics below for comparison - the standard 144" Dupont is on the left and the MTX style on the right.I get about 3,000 to 3,500 miles on the Duponts but I could get 4,500 plus if the inserts went back a bit further! Thanks Kevin!
I guess on a 153 the MTX dupont slides would leave about 5" without inserts?

On a Viper or Sidewinder 153 the Viper/Sidewinder MTX style DuPont slides would have inserts the entire length of the slide when cut to fit. The 162" models would end up with about 4 to 5 inches at the very back without inserts. Thanks Kevin!

The tricky part with understanding the lengths is that when comparing different models not all track lengths and slides lengths are the same - for example a 144" skid in a Nytro XTX and a 144" skid in a RS Venture model use slides that are roughly 4-5" different in overall length even though they are both 144" sleds - the Nytro XTX slides are very long for a 144" and the Ventures are kind of short. In comparison the 153" Viper/Sidewinder slides are super close (roughly within a 1/2") to the 144" Nytro XTX slides in length - that is why I believe a cost effective solution for 153" BTX/MTX owners would be to run the shorter Viper/Sidewinder trail Duponts as I believe they should fit (I've eyeballed it but not done an install yet) as length wise they are based off the nytro xtx 144" length - those will not have the inserts the full length of the slide as those have inserts the first 41" and then regular slide the last 16" but still should help double or triple the slide life when compared to stock slides and be more cost effective as the trail Duponts retail for significantly less (under half) than the MTX style does - as what they charge for the MTX style doesn't currently make any sense to me....

anyone ever put them on backwards, meaning the cut end at the front if the back wears too much and has no inserts? My slides don't wear much for about a foot or so at the front. I have never run these and it wouldn't be hard to try, just need to drill a hole for the set screw.

Kevin you Da Man! Thank you so much, check is in the mail! My next set will be those. I have 19mm at the front idler 18mm at the second set and a loose 17mm at the end of the Dupont insets quickly dropping off to a loose 14mm last idler at the tip up. The insets are 5mm so they are ready to come out and as they do they quickly make thier way up the sliders. I'm at about 3,000 miles right now of good snow riding! Best I have got is 3,500 and loosing dupont inserts at that time. I know they are expensive but if I can get 5,000 miles its worth it! So SMA-DPSSR-MT-00 are the ones!

I did just that on my apex 144". Worked awesome!
