Wifes Nytro let us down!

there is no comparison between the power of the nytro and the 1200. Thought for sure skidoo would come out with the turbo to keep up. The nytro may not handle as well, which is questionable but after riding bolth I have to say the Nytro is the most fun sled I have ever rode. By the way 3500 miles and only have had the lower ball joints changed out.Hope I didn't jinks my self.lol

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, but I have 3150 miles on my 08 Nytro w/ no real problems. Most rescent was my exhaust doughnuts. other than trouble free. Rode 600 miles this weekend and I was a very proud owner of my 08 FX Nytro. It was even happier when my Boss wanted to line up his 750 turbo switchback and his 05 900 fusion. I agreed and the checkered flag went to me from start to finish!!! :flag: :yam: Also rode with my buds 1200 gade last weekend Nice sled, but the nytro wins again. Hopefully your spring on your 1200's reverse has been updated or you may find yourself over the handle bars when it kicks out of gear. All sleds are great when they are runnng and to most will say they are a pc of S*%* when they are not! ;)!

My dealer changed out the reverse spring shortly after I got it. I now have more miles on my 09 1200 than you have on your 08 Nytro(3500). They have been flawless miles. Everything other than the reverse spring, oil and filter are original. Why would your exhaust donuts need to be replaced already? I didn't have to change them on my Apex till 5 thousand miles.
5300 miles on mine and no problems to report. Trust me, I ride Tug Hill majority of the times wilh moguls that will swallow any sled. If I was going to have any problems with a wire harness rubbing, it would have happen by now. Not saying the Nytro is perfect (well almost) but to let a wire harness issue put a bad taste in your mouth is unjustified.

I was gonna post this morning on this topic but didn't. This thread was started as a direct bash. There could have been a hundred different ways to bring this up. The point was to get a rise out of the faithful here. A wire rubbed through, that is unfortunate. So now Yamaha doesn't build good sleds, that is ridiculous. It was an issue, get it fixed & carry on. The whole point here was to stir the pot! If you think your 4tec is perfect go chirp it up on Doo Talk. Hopefully you haven't jinxed yourself!!

Well I don't care who drives what brand of snowmobile but I am sorry but exhaust donuts and other small issues are a joke to me and anyone who thinks that these small issues that happen to a few make a sled or manufacturer a bad apple are crazy. I ride every type of toy there is (and have for many years) and I put a beating on my sled that the others could not even come close too. I am suprised my skis just dont fall off let alone if a wire gets chewed up. I have watched 3 doos and 2 cats and one polaris blow up this year and I have yet in my 25 years of riding had one of my yamaha engines blow up, even the two strokes. My guys today do not have a clue as to the problems the 80"s and 90's sled had and if they did they would shut up and just enjoy how snowmobling has improved and how problems now are just no big deal. I have 3000 on my xtx and not a hicup, same original sliders, one oil changes and one big smile on my face. If you want buy twenty 1200 doo's and then never visit this web site again, and never nit pic on stupid things too. I go over to all the web sites and see lists of problems. But if you like the super stinging bee and want to plaster that or the orange saber tooth tiger on all your outfits and sled go right ahead. That way you will never have a bad taste in you mouth. (yea Right). P.S. I love my xtx

Not intended to be a bash! I own two Yamahas and two Doo's. Yamaha is the reason I went 4 stroke forever. I like my Apex a lot but I'm not that crazy about the Nytro. The Nytro is my wifes sled so my liking it or not doesn't matter. She loves her Nytro and thats what counts. The Apex now has 7 thousand trouble free miles and is by far the most reliable sled I have ever owned. I don't consider myself a Doo guy or a Yamaha guy I'm just a guy who likes Doo's and Yamahas. Maybe everything posted here should be candy coated so not to hurt any feelings but I just reported what happened and its a fact jack. ;):D

Since you own both, love to hear an unbiased review of the FX Nytro vs. The 1200 Doo!!

I like the 1200 better for my type of riding. The engine is smoother, quieter and better on fuel. The fuel range is way better because of the larger tank. During our trip we had to stop more often because of the small Nytro tank. The 1200 is warmer also. I prefere the riding position of the 1200, it feels roomier to me and more comfortable. I feel the performance of both sleds is very good but the 1200 has more mid and top end power. I like both the ride and handling of the 1200 better. During this trip I noticed what others have complained about the ice buildup on the Nytros. WOW its unreal!! I had to use a hammer every morning to remove 30 lbs of ice from under that sled. My biggest fear was if one of the forward ice chunks broke loose at high speeds it would lock the track up and my wife could get hurt. The 1200 has no issues with ice buildup. There is nothing I like better about the Nytro over the 1200.
All that being said my wife loves her Nytro. She feels it is the best handling and riding sled she has ever owned. She says that she can ride it faster and easier than any other sled. The funny thing is just before her sled quit on her she was telling me over the comunicator how much she loved her sled and how much fun it is to ride. The only thing she doesn't like about her sled is the small tank. When you tour with the Nytro you better plan your fuel stops. The last sled I owned with such a dumb small tank was back in 1989!
i have done hearst to hornepayne 3 times and my wifes phazer always made it with about 5 litres left, she's got the same tank as the nytro if im not mistaken, the small tank as never been an issue for me,so what if you have to stop 1 more time in the day,i know those trails by heart and not 1 place am i worried about fuel

I don't think so, especially since this guy owns and regularly rides an Apex, a Nytro, and Ski-Doo 4TEC.

I think this thread was a warning to others and a little frustration, on breaking down 60 miles from no where with a 1 year old sled.

I for one, appreciate his honest, non-brand loyal opinion on the Nytro and Ski-Doo 4TEC, both sleds have their advantages and disadvantages.

I have gotten over 120 miles on a tank multiple times while riding hard. No reason to have a bigger tank on the trails. I could see the Mt. guts wanting larger ones for off trail where you really can eat up the gas.

Unless the fuel stops are more than 120 miles apart.

I think you are a dreamer! My wife doesn't ride hard and her Nytro is on fumes after 100 miles. We went from Butler truck stop to Cochrane riding at a very steady pace for a total of 105 miles and her low fuel light was on and she took almost 7gallons of fuel.

I'm very happy for your wife and you but you missed my point. I have no doubt that her Nytro will make the trip with fuel to spare. Hearst to Hornepayne is about 90 miles. The Nytro WILL NOT go more than 110 miles on a tank in perfect conditions with 125 lb women riding it. My point was we went over 120 miles on a tank with my 1200 and 60 of those miles I was towing her. There is no way I could have towed my 1200 with her Nytro that distance. We would have for sure run out 25 miles short of Hearst.

I have also taken the Hearst to Hornepayne trail many many times. I even rode it back when it was over 115 miles the old route. Now I know her Nytro would have never made that run back in 2001! I'm also very impressed that you know that trail by heart. I think a third grader would have no trouble knowing that trail by heart.

I've run out dry on the trail at 88miles...I could never get over 100miles...
.I now have a trail tank and the low fuel light comes on just over 100miles and ill see only about 130-140mile range with the larger tank...
I regually only see 13-14mpg.....Northern Ontario trail are much differant and down south...a 600cc sled like riding a moped up here....long fast wide trail riding between 60-100mph and you not getting far on a tank
Yesterday the sled took 9.5 US Gal. And I only did 118miles trail miles!!!

I don't know why I have to keep defending myself in this post? I'm just stating what happened to me and my wife on our trip. I don't know why everybody has to defend the Nytro short comings? The small tank sucks and until this trip it hasen't been an issue and if we had two Nytros we would have been in big trouble. Yes I'm a little pissed that my trip had to be modified because of a "little" wire problem but I take this trip only once a year and I look forward to it. I had a trip like this ruined back in 04 when my 800 Rev seized the engine. Thats when I switched to Yamaha because I felt that Rotax 2 stroke engines sucked and they weren't going to ruin another trip for me. Now I'm back to having trips ruined but for "little" things that to some of you feel aren't such a big deal.
