I like the tank bag on my F-Cat, but the tank is black plastic, not painted. How have you been finding the wear on the paint under the bag for those of you with these bags?

On my 03 RX-1 the tank bag did wear a small spot on my tank. Since my new Attak is black I wanted to ensure this was a non issue. Talked to my sales rep & he had a buddy that has been using the 3M clear plastic tape on other vehicles to prevent scratching. He wanted to experiment on snowmobiles so I gave him the go ahead. Now under my bag there is a clear plastic layer of tape that will prevent this problem. The guy did a great job. You can't see the tape job, it looks like there is thick clear paint job over he black paint job. If you do a search you should find more info on this as I had read something on this about a month ago. Not my idea originally & I remember there being some tips on how to do it.

balistic nylon against paint...like sandpaper!

get some 3M paint protector and your golden!

The tank bag will wreck the paint if you are not careful. Kind of like a nose bra on a car. If you never take it off to clean it now and again it will just rub right through the paint. Did that on my cousins RX-1. One reason why i would go with a windshield bag instead. Doesnt hold as much or a map but it wont wear through the paint.

I bought a felt like material. Cut it to size. I place it on the tank before the bag. Have been using it for a couple of years no scratches.

I just picked up some 3mm foam pad last night from a craft store. I cut a small piece and adhearded it to the bag as a trial run. It seemed to hold fine so I'll try putting it over the entire bottom of the bag tonight with some spray adhesive. I'll let you know the results.

the 3M paint protector is a clear film ...much better protection ....if the bag rotates or the felt peels...ouch

shami material fasten to back of bag or clear leading edge tape to tank area works or the cheap way is to place a good decal on tank first an let the decal wear ,hope it helps
