Personaly i would not feel comfortable cutting the window open on the track to put a track clip in there. The track might tear sooner or later.
I will check and see if the Doo wheels fit tonight without modifications. That is the cheapest way out.
And yes you should put all 6 on. In my opinion the front are too small letting the track slide on the hifax too much. Without the bigger wheels on my apex it feels like it's draging an Ancor!!!!
Hang on to your britches i will check it out tonight and give a reply.

Thanks APEXER1, let me know what your findings are. Also, it's not the closed window, because mostly all OEM's are running that style track and adding more clips would just add more weight, which would hurt top end. I believe it's the wheels, they are not big enough which is causing a huge amount of drag.

What are sizes of the stock wheels in milimeters compared to the DOO wheels?

I replaced my 2 inside idler wheels with kimpex aftermarket 2004 rx-1 wheels from sport mart inc in Utica mich. at a cost of $22.00 usd each
The bearing on the stock wheels is 25 mm ID and 12 mm thick central to the wheel.
the kimpex wheel bearing is 15mm and central to the wheel so ,as it would fit the stub shaft shoulder to the bearing race, it will push the wheel inboard by 1.5mm ( aprox. .060" ) you must replace the stock bolts with longer ones.
I had a concern originally as I thought the wheel would rub on my driver lugs .......but if you spin ANY wheel they do not run true and wobble ALOT!
the kimpex wheel is very robust (slightly wider on the rubber but tapered)
it comes with a plastic insert to reduce the bearing id fit from 25mm to
20mm ...you can remove this insert and use the 25mm dia to fit your stub shafts.
bottom line I have over 100 miles of very hard riding and cannot see any sine of rubbing or interference $44.00 and problem solved.

Yamaha makes good wheels the part number is 8cr-4731a-00 These have the wider bearing 15mm if you are replaceing a 12mm bearing on the inside then you need to machine .060 " off. These are 130mmm wheels. Putting on bigger wheels may make it roll easer as there will be no drag, But they were designed to run with 130mm .If the stock ones would stay together there would run fine.clipping the track or using the slp wear savers are not going to make the wheels last longer but will make the hyfax last longer and reduce drag.and people that have done report a gain in top end, I think the extra weight is over come by less drag

i am running the wide bearing without any machining correction !
the clearance of the lugs to the wheel can take the additional .060"
this is prooven from riding 100 + miles on them.
additionally think about it are we saying that your track adjustment must be within .060" from sise to side ?? factory tolllerance has considered far more than >060" of miss-allignment.

I'll bet you that your hyfax are far from "shot". They wear very quickly at first and then basically stop wearing for the next 1500-2000 miles.

Well, as soon as you blow the rubber off your idlers, you will soon see how far your hyfax disappears.

Woooooooo Wooooooo I want you to take a look at something. Do you know why thoes track clips have sides on them and when the track is lined up you have about 1/4 to 3/8 clearance on each side. It's because when you go into a corner the track shifts to one side and the track clip keeps the track from comming offthe suspension. So if the track is shifting about 3/8 and your idler doesn't have that clearance from side to side then gues what. GOOD BY IDLER!!!!!!!

Thats probably because when the hifax wears down then it starts to hit the wheels Thous-no more wear...

The premium wheel kit from Maximum Performance also has a slightly wider bearing, Gary at Maximum says no problem. These wheels have been used on lots of sled with zero problems. studdog
