Will the EFI start at 30 below?

I had real bad feelings that my 03 RX1 would'nt start on some 30 below mornings, but it did, almost all the time. I realize no one has had experience with it yet but maybe some of you guys that test rode asked a Yama rep. Just wondering?

Without electric start all my efi sleds started on the second pull as first pull set up the efi system. I than sat and watched while my buds pulled their arms off. Electric start should make this system a dream.

A little tip here might be to
turn on the ignition, count one thousand one,......two
then start it.
That will let the high pressure pump build pressure and give the computer more than ample time to calibrate your starting mixture

Can you hear the pump pressure up then stop. I know on the 660 Turbo, when you turn the key half way, you can hear the pump run then stop.

Excellent suggestion Tork, We have to remember that molecular motion slows down the colder it gets.

This will affect computer time and pump speed. Also, don't forget to prime engine with oil by turning it over for a couple of seconds before starting it!

How do you do that??No rope.

for what its worth...this is a LOW pressure system. Also, since it has a battery, as soon as you turn the key on it knows the air temp, coolant temp, and Baro pressure. Thats all it needs to start and will start very quickly.

As for priming the engine.....no need to do that. The oil filter has a check valve in it and keeps it from draining down. SO, as soon as the engine fires it has oil going to the top end. ===SRXSRULE===

How can you crank and not start. Both my rx-1's need both the kill switch and key on to crank and it will fire asap.

Guys,

There's normally an injector pulse that can be disconnected on FI. If it's carburetted then just leave the shutoff valve off. Both of these are very simple to do and take about 30 seconds.

Check valve or no check valve I like to have everything coated prior to combustion actually occurring.

zoomzoom.......So do you disable the ingition system on your car/truck on cold mornings so you can prime the system? If it really bothers you that much just install yamahas coolant heater and plug it in at night. ===SRXSRULE===

If this FI system is anything like the system on Yamaha and many other motorcycles, you will hear the electronic pump and systems turn on and then go silent. I have started my Triumph Sprint ST a couple of times in below zero temps and it acts the same as when at 70 degrees. So, should not be a problem.
