Hey guys,
Me and a friend are planning on trying out racing snocross next year..We have always ridden 440's and he will still be on a snopro. I have become real interested in the Phazer and plan on selling my 440 and buying one, but where will that put racing for me? Do you think they will be allowed to run in the stock 440 class? Do you think they will be competitive at the Sport level? Thanks! Frank

Id say the Phazer has its place if its add's 50hp or so and remands 450lbs.

no phazer in snow cross. Can't have a gear reduction running to the clutch. The only motor yamaha can use at this point it the vector motor.
Guys,
2008 will be 600's instead of 440's, but my question would still remain..Regardless of the minimum size of the class.
If the Phazer added 50 HP it would be at 130 HP, current 440's are at about 105. With the Phazers 80 HP and wider torque curve, I think it will accelerate nicely.
I know about the gear reduction rule for sno-x. But I am a joe nobody in the sport class on the local level, will that rule still apply? At my level, they allow minor changes to the motor, like low compression pump fuel heads which are STRICTLY forbidden in the semi and pro classes.
I guess considering that it is low level sport racing and the race organizations willingness to bend the rules a bit to get new people involved. The Phazers torque output (that 4stroke owners scream about everytime you bring up HP and weight) and capable looking suspension and ergos...The question still remains. Will the Phazer have a place in Snocross and will it be competitive with modern 440's?????

The fact that you are a "joe nobody" is besides the point, rules are rules. Im sure that the people who do the tech inspection will be aware that the Phazer has a gear reducer and will bust you for it.TRUTH said:I know about the gear reduction rule for sno-x. I could see them running the FX chassis if they put the Genesis 120 engine in it, (because it would eliminate the need for a gear reducer) but I dont see them running the Phazer in sno-x. Im sure the 120 would be a tight fit though. The Genesis 80 FI looks like its crammed in there, I cant imagine how tight the 120 would be.
The fact that I am a "joe nobody" does apply.. I have already pointed out that the tech's allow changes to the motor in the sport/joe nobody class (low comp heads) that are NOT ALLOWED whatsoever in the higher classes, which may include the gear reduction. The Tech inspectors at the WPSA would not allow the Phazer, that is 100% IN STONE. I am not racing in front of thousands of people at the WPSA professional level, I would be at a local sport level.
I have some picture of the Phazer with the side panels removed. The 120 engine, NO WAY. The side panels are tight against the motor. The Phazer will not ever have the 120 motor without something major changing.

It definatly wont be a tripple for sno-x has to be a bigger twin to keep the weight down just increasing the bore and stroke a lil wont make the engine that much bigger and if they loose the gear reduction then it will be lighter now wont it?

Loosing the gear reduction = loosing 10-20 hp. Not such a good idea imo.

I was tole that Yamaha is petitioning to make the Phazer legal in the Junior class probably in a new class or maybe in the 600 fan class if the other companies agree. The Phazer is not built to be a full on racer and would not be able to beat a full race 440 liquid.

Truthfully I'd check with your local race coordinator. Get something in writing (like an email) for the trail class. Cause really no one here can tell you yes or no as much as they'd like to be able to :ORC

No, but it would compete really well with the Freestyle 550. The WPSA already has a "Freestyle" class, why not let the Phazer race there?DELTABOX said:I was tole that Yamaha is petitioning to make the Phazer legal in the Junior class probably in a new class or maybe in the 600 fan class if the other companies agree.
