You guys crack me up. Like I stated before, you will be singing a different tune next year at this time. The New Phazer is the next generation of sleds to come and it will kick some serious at the Snow X Races. Just my 2 cents.
I'm not sure what to expect of Yamaha for sno-x. I'm toying with entering my Vector in sport class in the local sno-x race but I know I'll be at a disadvantage. The new Phazer chassis is promising, but the motor is under powered for even 440. I can't see buying a Phazer when the 440 class is going away after next year. I also don't see Yamaha coming out with a new big bore twin to compete in the 600 class when they already have the Vector 3-cyl.
I'm not sure what the future holds but the 4-strokes are swet and I'll continue riding them. I know from personal experience they are competitive in cross country. In my last race I took 3rd.

There will be no Phazer racing in snocross next year. Yamaha has already stated they will campaign the Nytro in the Open Mod class. The Phazer CANNOT compete under WSA rules. No gear reduction driven clutches allowed. The Phazer chassis as it is built now will not accomodate the triple so a high spinning twin is all that'll fit and make any power. The high revs dictates gear reduction to hold a clutch together and get more torque. You're not gonna see a Phazer competing next year without rule changes, period. Will WSA change the rules? Maybe, but I doubt it. Yammi tried to get a turbo in and was shut down. Too much money coming in from the other 3 manufacturers is my bet, although I'd love to see a turboed Phazer in a 600 class.

Oh really?
It probably won't handle 160hp (that doesn't have gear reduction) either.

Well for starters Yamaha doesn't have a sled engine with 160 HP and no gear reduction, but I was referring to the fact that the chassis will not house the triple and certainly not the 4 holer as it is currently designed. There simply isn't room in there.

You are not correct.
As Oak Hill stated above, there are some big surprises coming in SnoX next season from team Blue.
(btw - the 973 can make more than enough HP to be competitive in the 600 class)

JDKRXW,
Why do you think that? Do you have some insider information or are you just guessing? Yamaha has publically stated that they are campaigning a 130 HP Nytro sled in the Pro Open division next year. They also stated they are making future plans for 09, but not before. To the best of my knowledge there will be no secret Yammi snocrosser next season. If you're so confident there is, show us some proof or stop making statements you can't back up.

How about you stop making statements that you know nothing of as well? Have you ridden the Nytro snowcross racer? Until you do and can make a valid estimation on how light it is and how balanced it is kindly shut it
They need to sign some good racers.

I don't need to ride the Nytro racer to see how light it is. Yamaha has posted its weight. Try actually reading what I originally posted before you mouth off. It doesn't take a genius to realize that if the Nytro is 50 lbs heavier and has 50 less HP then all the other sleds in the race, its gonna be slower then the competition. The Pro Open class is way out of the Nytro's league. Is it a great sled? I'm sure it is and I love Yammi, but it seems rediculous to me to enter back into snocross without a chance at being competitive.
In regards to the "kindly shut it" comment. Sounds like you could stand to grow up a little.

Listen Blair Morgan, I realize you know all things snowcross, but you came on here with attitude against other people. 50 lb's? That's the difference between Mike Island and Malinoski. And the rider weight is the throw around weight. If it's hidden in the machine and it's balanced you won't notice near as much as you're making out.
As far as HP goes theres a lot of other factors. Take for instance the Nytro in the shootout. Heaviest sled, yet in 660 is beat everyone, then the others caught and passed it. Or the fact that 600's have very close times to higher hp sleds in short distances. It's all in how a sled is geared and puts the power to the ground. It's not like they really go over 30 mph.
No ones saying that it's the best snowcross racer out there and I'm sure theres a lot of improvements to be made. WSA before was a real pain when it came to making rules for 4 strokes. The way they made them really puts them at a disadvantage. The point, which you seem to be unable to grasp is that they are getting back into it and the machine can at least be competetive, though not dominant. And for right now that's enough for many of us, to see Blue back out on the track.

I guess you just proved my point. Lol.

Red why do you think the Nytro will be down by 50hp? The 600 open mod sleds have about 140-145hp. So it seems like if they modify the engine the Nytro could be competitive in power. Plus at Lake Geneva they got the holeshot in one race. I heard them say at Lake Geneva that they are racing striclty for R&D and for testing right now and they are learning a lot for future racing applications. Personally I think the rules will make it tough for them to compete but at the end Yamaha will learn a lot that should help make future sleds better. Either way it will give us something to watch and talk about

Delta,
Those are good points you make. Here's the deal, though. Yamaha is planning on campaigning the Nytro in the Pro Open class. There modded Nytro puts out 130 HP. This is not me "guessing", its documented. I just can't see 130 HP and 480 lbs being competitive. In the 600 class, I agree it might have a chance, but not in Pro Open. That's my point. Believe me guys, I want Yamaha competitive in snocross just as much as all of you. But, I am a realist, and its disappointing that their best effort seems so distant from the rest of the field.

The Yamaha sled built for racing in Japan had 130HP. That engine is stock with addition of Keihen carbs similar to the 450 quad. The carbs alone add 10HP to the Nytro.
The race sled I saw – not the basic version they use in Japan to race with, had substantial more HP than stock 120 or with carbs 130 HP.
It had a race pipe a total loss ignition system in addition to some other deal I didn’t quite understand. Probably in the range of 150 to 175HP. – I’m guessing.
Factories don’t go to a race to look bad – they wanted to win. Ya if they didn’t win then say – we are just testing – ya right. They have plenty of time to practice in private.
Yamaha does have the package to win – they just need somebody with some depth to get it out.
Again – the rumor is an established team will be running the Yamaha mod show on the WPSA circuit next winter. They will have the look – but will they have the depth – time will tell.

amsnow specifically said it had 130hp..
I know for a fact the open mod sleds are over 160hp.. ist been said a million times..
Its not just the sled.. its the rider and the suspension.. Like said before.. the last race of the season.. they sucked big time... they looked like they never saw a bump on a track before.. the were just putt putting around and bottoming out on the small jumps..
A Phazer with 140hp might get it done.. but in order to have 140 hp you going to have to add 50 more pounds of engine..
