Will Yamaha EVER be competitive in snocross?????

If you take a look at the pictures posted you will notice the frame was almost touching the ground in staging. What’s it supposed to do on a bump? :tg:

It looked like they lowered the suspension a lot like drag racers do to get more traction on the start, I’m assuming. :o|

They seem to accomplish that – as it was said one of them was first up the hill.

My old tuner buddy once said – it was almost like the Yamaha designers drew the thing and mathematically it worked perfect – but the setup boys never got to talk to them. Or some what to that affect. LaLaLa

The guys with the sleds only have one head and two arms like most of us – they just can’t see the forest for the trees – huh – that’s original.

Yamaha has it – they need to find it, it’s there, they only need to look. :exc:

amsnow specifically said it had 130hp..

..

Right - the sled they raced in Japan had 130HP, 10HP over stock by using kehin carbs.

The sled they raced at WPSA was race sled - not the sleds they raced in Japan.

The sled they plan to run in WSA next year IS a Nytro with 130 HP. Its right in all the mags. No Nytro motors out there making 175 HP without a turbo.

The open mod racers do not have 175 HP. The open mod class changd this year to 600cc with unlimited mods. My buddy bought a new Ski-Doo rolling chassis and a 600cc open mod engine I think he said it had about 135 HP from Ski-Doo. The top teams have about 145+ hp. Either way we will see how much power they can get from an open mod Nytro. The new open mod rule from the WPSA site is.

MODIFIED / OPEN REGULATIONS
GENERAL RULES [Modified / Open Regulations]
1. Maximum displacement 600cc.
2. All machines must meet the safety guidelines.
3. All competing machines may be individually inspected by race officials for safety
and structural soundness.
4. All machines must be equipped with a tethered safety kill switch which will stop the
motor and any electric fuel pumps being used. The tether cord must be securely
attached to the operator at any time the motor is running.
5. The minimum weight of the machine (as raced) shall be four hundred and thirty
(430) lbs.

I did not see anything on 4 strokes but I think they can only use the Nytro engine and not the Apex engine. It looks like they will need to drop at least some weight and add some HP to be competitive.

There is a pimped up Nytro running in the Swedish sno-x series and doing really well in the pro open 800 class. Engine work is done by MCXpress in Sweden, the sled puts out 145 HP. MCXpress said that they could have made a lot more HP but team Granbergs main focus was to have it make as much torque as possible so it was built with that request in mind. The RS engine is capable of making at least 175+ HP if tuned for maxximum HP. The RX-1 engine has been tuned to 190+ HP dynoed by Freddie Klies at ECP's inertia dyno, it dynoes on the low side. All above sleds has NA engines.

RJH do you have a link of the pictures of the race sled? Is that you airing our a Phazer?

Thanks
No link – I saw the sled last season, a year ago, at the last CSRA Craighurst race. They just drove it slow – let some new Yamaha promo guy have the keys and he maybe started it several times.

First thing I saw was a broken suspension rail. The deal had total loss ignition, and I think he said the engine used a 32 bit ECU for the ignition. He said something about cams and pistons as well.

The picture on this site of the Swedish race sled had a totally different front end. This deal also had the single high seat and was very easy to pick up at the back.

That’s my son – you can see another picture of him on the SXR 500 on the front cover of the 2000 USI ski catalogue. That was the last snocross race (CSRA of 2000) I pushed the same throttle, but, at my age, some kind of connection is severed between my brain and throttle thumb. One part says go but then it defaults to let off!!! :o|

Oh - we wanted to win at some race stuff - so we then went 125cc at 42HP shifter kart racing winning 1st overall at Mosport kart Track - 105 mph. :flag:

three holer and H.P. wonders....... LMFAO ya'll are funny

You can buy a Kit from Fundy Power Sports i.e. Dynoray for the vector that makes 150 h.p. , with cams, a little higher compresssion, and some timing changes, for around 3000.00 canadian. If an independent company can do this with the vector then I think the manufacturer can come up with something more..... what do you think ????

I don't for see Yamaha with all the pride they have in there "all 4-stroke line up" and the new Phazer unveiling will put there sled in snowcross for anything less than to make a STATEMENT! They've made a HUGE statement in the past 2 years and I think this will just be another step! I'm glad they're doing it and I can't see them doing it for second place or the last place......... they wanna win!!!! I think they will, why else spend that kind of dough? Sorry fella's it's not for us consumers, sure we may benefit from the research but the sleds they race will be totally different from what we will ever get our hands on, if they aren't .....well then they'll suck. I hope there kickin #*$&@ and taken names, especialy the Doo's and Poo's ! :die

Racing improves the breed. Necessity is the mother of invention. The motor can be made to make enough HP and more weight can be lost. The package can be made. If it will, only time will tell. But even racing and losing is going to make the sleds better. It makes sense for them to supply an independant team with more interest in winning than R&D. Lets hope RJH is right and that it translates in to some success next year.
