OMG this sled. After finding a cracked head at 350 miles all new motor was built by dealer, warrantied by Yamaha and took over 9 months. Last week first trip to WI from Iowa and it made it 40 miles before it over heated. The EXACT same thing as last year. I spend 2 days burping the coolant system, added over 1/2 GALLON to it. I was on a lake and made it 500' the sled would overheat, stop it, the rear exchanger is cold. Start it up and boom that rear cooler gets hot sled drops to 170 degrees. Go another 1000' and same thing. repeat about a dozen times to get it off the lake and left it parked at a bar where I picked it up with the truck the next day. Made it 150 miles total with a lot of stopping.

Anyone had a thermostat go out? My water pump is BRAND new. I asked for a itemized list of materials after the build, and there was NOT a new T stat used in the rebuild.

I wanted to pull it out and run without but it can't be done and still seal. Grrr.....

If it burns down it was a accident....I promise!

Air locked , be patient , heat cycle it and keeping adding fluid. Best to get front end up in air

Also where are you adding coolant? The coolant cap or the overflow tank? (especially when hot). I had sled on the ramp door of the trailer so the nose was up. Then used the bleed screw on the cast reservoir over by the ROV with the sled was angled and the right side up on a snow bank.

What a pain!
Thermostat sure could cause the issues you are having or some kind of obstruction in the cooling system
I hope for your sake you get it sorted out soon as these SW are a great when they are running right.

Spent all weekend doing the same thing on the same sled. I cracked the cap loose and let it gurgle into the overflow tank. Coolers then got warm and temp came down. Didn’t have any more problems with it. Fingers crossed but if comes up again it will get a thermostat as that’s the next logical step.

Sorry to hear the bad luck. You ever think your Apex is jealous and may have something to do with it ?

I gotta say, sounds like a shitty dealer. They took 9 months to fix this, and obviously didnt test the sled before they gave it back to you. I would be making some serious noise with Yamaha head office on this one.

OMG is right! My first thought whereas it was rebuilt by dealer is your winter fun is screwed again.

Man I really hope they find a quick simple fix and then they owe you Big Time!! OMG again.

FYI, if I start mine cold and watch the temp gauge, after about 5-10 minutes I can see the temp swing from 164 down to 15something and watch the temp slowly climb again, thus I am watching the thermostat work!

May want to try that first before you head out again. Just a thought.

HAHA! If I can find that oil leak, the ole girl will be back in action! I was testing it looking for a oil leak and I had it catwalking on a 151 with the pull of a throttle, just need to work out a few issues and she will be 100% again! Then this da** SW can sit! The big papa as I call the apex is way more fun to drive anyway!

I don't like to complain. They had it 9 months waiting on Yamaha parts! They did the work in less then a week and have been real friendly to me, and didn't raise a eyebrow with the tune on it. If it was not tuned and all stock I would probably squeak a little louder!

Interesting that Arctic Cat shows a part number for the complete engine...Yamaha does not.
Maybe your dealer should have ordered you a TCat engine to install...couple weeks and done.
