I'm new here and not trying to spam the board, however I've spent a lot of time browsing the forum and I'm having trouble piecing everything together.
I recently bought an '08 RTX that didn't come with a windshield and I'd like to add some wind protection.
First, for a windshield, are all of the mounts the same (as in for the different height windshields)? I will need to get a mount, preferably used, and I need to know which one to look for. I'm undecided which windshield to get. I'm about 5' 8". Would the short add decent protection, or is it useless? Is the tall overkill?
For fairings, I was wondering if the headlight fairing and knee fairings on the GT make a big difference? I know I rode one once and fount the knee fairings actually worked well as soft knee bolsters too. Are they are straight swap/bolt on? Again, used would be nice.
Thanks

Med and tall windshield has a different mount than short. It has 4 supports. I like a medium height windshield.

I have an 09' RTX with a short windshield. The short windshield is fine for me down to low teens F. This past season riding a lot at 0'F and below, it was cold!. I picked up a used tall windshield to use next year when it is really cold. The short windshield with 4 bolt bracket mount that my RTX came with also accepts a medium and large windshield.
I have added the head lamp fairings. I can't say that I noticed any reduction or difference in wind protection after mounting them.

I ride a low windshield all the time - even in -35 and I don't feel the cold. I had a large windshield and actually trimmed it down to a medium but have since replaced it.
I do have a spare med/large windshield bracket for sale if you are looking. Not sure what the shipping charge would be.

I've got a line on a used low windshield with a mount. I'll try that route along with the knee fairings and see how it works out. Thanks

I'm 5'7" and using the tall windshield makes a huge difference. I switch to a medium on warmer days. only takes a 2 minutes to change
