I've read up on the issues that some of us have with shields blowing the 3 amp fuses when using the cig plug in. Mine blew twice this weekend alone and 5 times for the season. I'm going on a trip Wednesday and don't have time to properly hard wire it. Thought I'd do that in the off season. I was wondering if I could just use the wires on the back side of the plug in. Cut those and wire in plug for my shield to these. Any reason I couldn't do that? Would the fuse that governed the cig plug work just as well for the new hook up? I am also thinking I would use a 5 amp fuse as others have.
Thanks for any feedback,

I put in a 5 amp fuse. I had read in here it shouldn't be a problem and so far it has been doing just fine powering the shield and the phone charger.

You can tie in to the harness that feeds the cig plug. Use a 5 amp fuse and dont let the heated visor cord fall when you unplug. Most cords find the running boards and blow fuses.

The fuses are located behind the right side panel and just above the reverse lever.

I've used a 4 amp and it has made a difference - but stills blows occasionally (once a winter)sure the 5 amp would take care of it!

Get Rock's accessory block it plugs into har ess below cig plug and has 2 visor outlets and 2 usb in it. Protected and works flawlessly no splicing at all plug and play.

If you tie into the acc. plug revese the leads so that negative is in the middle. The heated shield does not care which is positive or negative and that way the pos terminal will not ground to the frame blowing the fuse.
