ive been fighting oil usage with wiseco 10-1
pistons/rings 1 qt in 100 miles 3500 miles @
12 psi boost (supercharger) 06 apex gt
after assembly 1qt in 1st 100 miles and at end of year still 1 qt in 100
miles never changes
i have had this apart 2 times and found no problems
ring gap has been set at .017 and millinium has set
piston to cyl to .003 LEAK DOWN 7%
mountain performance now has a set of wiseco
pistons cut for stock yamaha rings (wisecos no good ??)
I am taking it apart for the 3rd time and if
i dont see anything wrong what do i do

reset ring clearance tighter and use wisco rings
on wiseco pistons or call mac and get a set of
their special cut wiseco pistons for yamaha rings
any suggestions would be helpfull
thanks

Quick Reply:
1ST TIME INSTALLING WISECOS I USED
YAMAHA 0-30 2ND TIME I USED CASTROL
10W40 CONVENTIONAL OIL
MY PRO MOD BLOWN BRAD ANDERSON HEMI AT 54 PSI HAS TO USE HIGH TENSION OIL RING
WHAT ARE WISECO RINGS
LOOKS LIKE CHROME TOP RING
I THOUGHT YOU COULDNT RUN CHROME RINGS ON
A HARD SURFACE
ARE THE WISECO OIL RING LOW TENSION ??
TOO MUCH OIL, I ADD TO MARK AND WHEN LIGHT COMES ON I ADD OIL

Did you hone the cylinders before assembly? If not your rings may not wear enough to seal properly. The criss/cross pattern from the honing will help rings in making a good seal. Just a thought. I did not hone either before installing the wisecos in my motor. I use about 1/2 quarter of oil in 1000 miles, just a little more than before installing the turbo and wiseco 10:1 pistons.

I had a similar issue after installing Wiseco pistons. I don't think my oil usage was quite that bad. But I went from using basically none before the pistons to about 1qt every 200 miles. It seemed to slowly get better the more miles I had on it. But after 2000 miles it was still using plenty of oil.

Could it be the oil rings not installed correctly? Faulty install of the oil rings would not show up in a leak down test, and could add to the oil usage problem.

My 2 cents, What about Crankcase Ventilation, this can be a major contributor to oil consumption.

Like Ted said ventilation makes a big difference, I had similiar problems. vented from the valve cover and crank case that helped. but when I ring ported the pistons that stopped it completely. allowed the rings to seal and no more blow by. more compression and hp.
