Wondering if I bought the wrong sled..

I just picked up a 2012 SE leftover with .2 miles. My concern is the Fox Air Shocks and the ride quality. My preference is for a smooth ride especially at low speeds. I am not a big ditch banger but do ride hard at times. I have done lots of reading posts on this site only to find that I might not have the ride I expect. I am planning on sending the shocks out to HyGear for their upgrade package before my first ride. I was a bit surprised at the cost; it’s close to 700.00 making it a $1700 total upgrade over the standard setup. I am coming off a 06 GT that I worked with Carver to finally get a decent ride after a few rebuilds from Pioneer. Will I be satisfied with this sled? Should I get the shock package from HyGear? Should I sell the shocks and get the standard ones?

I would ride it first before thinking on changes. Calibrate what you can with stock calibrations and if your still not happy, go with plan B. You might be surprised.

congrats on the new ride!

I am in the same boat. New to me 11 SE for this season.

Some have reported complete satisfaction with the ride performance of the Floats while others have reported improvement by incorporating Hygear's kits.

Due to the limited seat time I get each season, I chose to have Hygear do their thing just to the Mega before I rode it. I have used them in the past and trusted when they said they could make significant improvement to the stock internals.

Price was no where near $700.00. Was this the cost for all three?

for whats its worth i HAITED my fox shox on my F7...ride was poor,,,coil over imo are much better for a smoth ride.....ditch bagging yeah fox cause they dont bottom out...

also in really cold weather like -30...youll etheir find them like a rock or flat to the ground not holding air....worst shox ever imo for a trail rider...

Don't sell the shocks. Do as someone above indicated, "ride it first."

My SE rides like a pillow whether it's freezing, cold, bitter, etc... Easy adjustment. No leaks, and rarely the pressure changed. I still look at least once during the day.

Sure are a bunch of different opinions. You simply need to go ride it. My guess is you'll be impressed.

I have no complaints with the ride. My only problem is air has leaked out since day 1, and Yamaha nor Fox will stand behind the shock. I think you will like the ride though.

I absolutely agree with Ecopter. You will likely have to adjust it some. I hated mine the first weekend. [I wanted my 06 Apex GT back bad]

I dropped pressures to 58 Front, 158 rear, raised limiter strap 1 hole and set transfer rod on 7/8 full .

After that I loved it. If you want it perfect you need to adjust pressures for the conditions and how you are riding it.

No problems with leaks here. Fox's I had on my mid 90's Polaris were 3 weekend shocks. These ones on the SE are 2 years old and over 6000 Km, no issues.

The Fox's love to be ridden hard and are darn good at slow speeds.

When you say raised, do you mean lengthening or shortening the limiter?

pull air out and charge with nitrogen with lower pressures more consistent ride.
