Mine doesnt smoke or smell. Still runs pretty strong too.

I just got back from a 600 mile ride and I did the Yamaha Ring Free "shock treatment". It's been about 1000 miles since I last added any oil and the oil level is still good.
My service guy at the dealer said the Ring Free works great because some of the bigger Yamaha bikes have the same issues with a "dry sump" oil system. I'll keep you posted on results but so far so good.
