Is it really worth clutching my xtx? how much will I gain over stock? will it still snap out of the hole like it does now? thinking of schmidt brothers racing stage 2

Clutching a Nytro...whether it be an XTX, RTX or std model, makes a big difference...but it depends on what you are clutching for...most kits really help out the bottom end and mid range punch of the sled. Some kits use different rollers ( like the kit you are looking at ) to help get rid of the Nytros harsh engagement...it makes a noticable difference and will come out of the hole better..plus you'll notice the midrange as well.

x2... like shaddow said, my sled was stock 2 winters ago and I was 4-5 sled lengths slower on bottom and midrange than I am now. without clutching you are not able to get all the power out of this engine to the track.shaddow44 said:Clutching a Nytro...whether it be an XTX, RTX or std model, makes a big difference...but it depends on what you are clutching for...most kits really help out the bottom end and mid range punch of the sled. There isn't a sled made that doesn't benefit from a good clutch kit.

Agreed!! I have Ulmer's stage 1 kit and it walks away from my son's FX out of the hole and has a strong up-shift. Prior to the kit they were pretty even.

I installed the Schmidt Bros stage II clutch kit last winter on my '09 XTX, and WHAT a difference. Most importantly it helps the, as shadow44 points out, the harsh engagement. It pulls away soooo much more smoothly now and you get a lot better pull in the low and mid range, even better trottle response. Worth every penny!

Same here, Ulmers Stage 1 and it's a different animal out of the hole.

you shouldn't...but clutching is a compramise..you can't have it all lol. The nice thing about SB kits is they use stock weights which seem to pull better top end than aftermarket weights.

95% of my riding in upstate NY is trail riding and goat paths in the woods. We hit very few open areas/lakes where I can mash it.
I will say, my one buddy I ride with has a 2009 (or 2010 can't remember )XRS 800 and I stay with him up to about 80 and then he slowly walks away. Before the clutch kit, he would have me out of the hole. The other guy I ride with has a 600 ETEC and he gets left in the dust but, even with the stock clutch it was like that.

You could always machine the clutch for over drive while you do the clutch kit. This will get that last bit out of her at the top also

Just going to 14.5mm rollers take care of the harsh engagement from stock. I played with springs last year after I did rollers and found a Y-P-Y spring, it has a little more spring rate and a bit less preload.

Clutching
I bought the SB kit. It was an easy install and I really did take the engagement jerk out of it. I rode it around the grass and what a difference.
I can't wait to ride it this season. Buy their kit and you will be happy. I am so far. I did the stage 2 since I ditch bang.

I picked up 2-3 MPG when I installed a Schmidt Bros. kit on my RTX.

I have d&f, Super Rats (for sale) and i have ulmers stage 1 kit! I am just wondering if SB use the same springs and helix cut as ulmers kit minus the super tip weights, acutually havent really tried the ulmer kit but i have these items? Does anyone know the helix and springs used in the sb kit are they the same? I cant remeber Ulmers kit springs and helix but i have them. Just dont want to buy stuff i already have.
