2010 Nytro XTX Black edition
Hey all, I know this has been brought up in various threads in the past, but I have a few specific questions.

Looking at getting the Schmidt Bros Stage 2 kit for my XTX. I have read somewhere that you need to drill the weights on the stock clutch, does this make sense? What if I want to go back to factory at some point?

Also, does lowering the engagement and lowering overall top end RPM have any negative effects? I like how it rides with the stock clutching, but maybe im still a virgin in terms of what this thing can do with a mod like this...

Finally, What do you guys think of the kit? Worth the $500 CDN?

Cheers!

Don't have first hand experience with any kits but I am a fan of lowering engagements on these sleds, easier to get traction and also easier at low speed like moving around the garage or on/off the trailer. these sleds have plenty of torque so the low rpm does not seem to bother the low end, as for the mid and upper end u will want to keep ur rpms close to peak power.

The drilling u talk about is for fine tuning the stock weights, u use tuning rivets where u need to drill/ or grinding to get old ones out, then when u put new ones in pean over the end until it tightens up so it can't fall out or anything. any aftermarket weights the holes are tapped so u use nuts, bolts, and washers to add/ remove weight.

I just installed the same kit in my new to me 2013 nytro, call Chris at schmidt he's of great help to any questions you may have.
Mine is a 120" with a star skid relocate to bring it to 128" and Chris told me I should be fine without adjusting the weights and to keep an eye on wot rpm's which I should be right on with his setup at 8700-8800

I installed the Stage II in my 2008 Nytro and now have about 8,000 miles on it. Installation didn't require any weight change in my RTX although I do know a guy that installed The Stage II along with Schmidt's dual output muffler and it needed some weight modification. Installing weight does require drilling out the stock rivets but you can always go back if needed. You won't regret the lower engagement and the mid range pull is excellent....... as advertised.

My RTX has the SB comfort kit, it's still got a 'lil kick out of the hole for lining up against my buddies then eventually levels off.
The Wife's XTX has an Ulmer's, hooks up great & definitely pulls a lot harder.
45mph on a solid packed trail it'll lift the skis off the snow.
I do like the lower engagement for loading/ such as Livewire mentioned, XTX just have to get it in motion a bit sooner and 1 shot on the trailer.
Both kits do work for me.

SB stage 2 is a nice kit! Great engagement and nice power through the range. Weights come with the kit just in case, however mine didn't need any adjustment either, left the weights stock. SB has been awesome to deal with in general.

I picked up a used SB stg2 kit 2 seasons ago....the member I got it off had the same mods as me therefore the weights were set perfect. Low speed is excellent, beyond that it doesn't have the mid range punch the Drag n Flys does. I have the Star Suspensions 128" relocate, and was hoping my top end would have improved...but I haven't noticed much of a difference. Overall I'd say the SB Sgt 2 kit is much better than stock, but for the money I think there are better kits.

On a side note, I've been toying with adding Heavy Hitter weights that they offer in the stage 3 kit. I've sent 2 emails to Schmidt Bros asking if there is any difference between stage 2 and 3 other than weights and they still haven't replied....so I probably won't be buying the weights from them as they don't seem interested in answering questions about their product.

I put the Ulmer kit built from my specks for my xtx just tried it last week aroud the yard noticeable pull for sure
Simple install
