I am looking at doing some kind of traction products. I have even kicked around the idea of the screws. (into the paddles) Haven'y done a lot of research on them yet, but know I would like some bite on ice when I do ride the trails with the family....

no screws for me...been there done that...
since im local...p.m. me where and what deal you made if you dont mind..might be in the market ; )

studs

kicking around the idea of running double backers this time.....

If my math is correct;
Singles on every band = 114 studs and backers with tall nuts.
Doubles staggered on every band = 57 backers 114 studs with tall nuts.

THOUGHTS???????

OK, now I've got the bug... Where did you get your sled? Do they have any more? I did screws in a Viper and I liked it, however just like studs, you have to put in enough of them.

slightly off topic but Ive heard the xtx doesnt like to turn in the tighter trails when you stud them whats your experience???

XTX

Great question "SJ". Can anyone comment on that? I ride a fair share amount on the trails and know that the XTX is going to push a little in the corners, but are the studs going to affect the push that much?

Thanks

No clue....never rode mine without studs......but IMO it turns fine with studs....don't overstud and shell be VERY fast

XTX

I think I have decided on going with 114 studs with double backers, so I don't think I am going to be over studded.

Haven't had the chance to ride an XTX yet, well in snow. I have ripped the s--t out of my yard so far. I have the bug something bad right now and can't wait for snow.

My wife is starting to think I am crazy, looking at the clouds and saying, "Those look lilke snow clouds, don't they?" :letsnow:

id go with single backers with 114 studs. I look hard at the doubles but found the patter (every second row) to be uneven

what dealer did you get yours at and if you wouldnt mind P.m. me the deal you made?

Turning the XTX is just fine with studs.
The 08 shorty I had was more unstable.
And it's not just the front end geometry I'm talking about.
Due to the profile change around the drive track in and out...
This made the XTX much flater (for lack of terms) or more balanced.
I could never get the 08 rear to feel flat nor could I brake hard or panic slide sideways flat like you can on an XTX.
And I put over 3500kms on the 08 and messed with it all year long.
Once you have the XTX shock set up and ride height correct for the center shock. There is a major difference.
Go with a more agressive trail ski and you should be happy.
My buds on XP's all agree the XTX feels a bit heavy but more stable.
It's all about the shock set up.

what about compared to an 09 shorty?

The 08 short and the 09 are pretty much the same except the front end. Will you quite over analizing this thing and just buy it...

sj, go buy that cheap xtx or I'll hunt down the dealer and get it.......
